Southampton tonight. They've had a really bad time - roads closed, trees down, floods - but it seems to have eased off.
Just when they thought it was getting better a man full of misery and self-loathing appears.

Ciaran 🇬🇧🇪🇺🇮🇪 on X: "Currently at Southampton’s #CentralHall at the book launch and in conversation with @mrjamesob ! Lots of laughs too. Good to know I’m surrounded by like minded people ☺️ 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 🇮🇪 #HowTheyBrokeBritain https://t.co/pDPoEbPM47" / X (twitter.com)

Iain Dale was up early this morning and on the telly.

James O'Brien must be furious as no-one ever invites him on.
Thank God they don't.

Oh dear! Just heard his trailer. He's going to prop up Starmer not wearing a poppy by pointing out the Sunak wasn't wearing one to meet Elon Musk. Sunak was in his shirt sleeves. He had one on his jacket to meet the Italian PM. Talk about nit-picking.

Slight;y off topic. There's an animal charity that sells purple poppies to remember all the animal 'troops' that lost their lives in war.

No Andrew Castle? I hope he is ok? He sounded so low when I last heard him when he was reading out all the hate mail he had been receiving.

Why would you read out hate mail? Seems a strange way to add content to a show. Do they ALL do it? Must be a trait for the sort of people who want to be on the wireless. I think I'd ignore it or if it seemed legitimately threatening pass it on to the police, what I wouldn't do is read it out! :ROFLMAO:

He sounded as if he was taking it badly and I just got the feeling that something wasn't right but I'm probably overreacting.

Such a shame that choosing to wear a poppy..or not...is now such a sensitive issue. Our war heroes would have hated to live in today's selfish opinionated society.
It's disgraceful how polarized it has become, the men & women who fought for our freedom/democracy would be appalled.
Wear one, don't wear one, no big deal to me, we are free to choose thanks to them.

It is horrible but I'm not sure what she is expecting. X is most definitely not a platform for intelligent and reasoned debate. This current situation is an absolute golden opportunity for rascists, idiots and vile creatures to have a field day. With Elon in charge it's worse than ever and an absolute cesspit.

I would guess that anyone even vaguely prominent or with any kind of profile is facing the same. I'd love to see what Rachel Riley's responses are like. People are losing their minds on X at the moment. Why is she even engaging with a randomer?

Twitter is a cesspit and it has been for years, you should realise very, very quickly that you don't change anyone's mind on anything. Only ever got blocked by two people, Victoria Derbyshire because I called her a hypocrite for criticising a senior 5live employee for not moving to Salford when she point blank refused to do the same. The second person was Steve Allen who was telling us on air how he was completing his VAT return. He was doing it wrong, so I politely told him how to do it right and the block button was hit instantly !

Personally, I think it's bleeping hilarious but I'm a bit of an anarchist when it comes to The Internet. As you say, anyone who uses Twitter for a discussion on complex social or political issues is either an idiot or severely desperate for attention. Funnily enough I've never been drawn to Twitter and don't use it, although obviously I know what it is and how it works and I've been online since web-browsing began (anyone remember Mosaic?) and before that on BBS' (Bulletin Board Systems) using a dial-up modem! God I feel old. :ROFLMAO:
