My friend had her knee replacement done while she was awake, she just had an epidural. She heard all the sawing and hammering!I broke my arm badly at the start of Covid, so they still put me up for surgery as they classed it as 'deformed' and it would have been disabling to let it heal wrong. I was waiting around for surgery and I'd seen 3 anaesthetist people who all ask you the same questions about whether you're OK with being knocked out, whether you've had reactions etc, so I was fully prepared to be knocked out.
Finally, when I got to surgery and on the table ( last person that day) the anaesthetist said 'Do you want to be awake, it would be easier for us' .....I was shocked. No way did I want to be awake for 2 hours whilst they drilled into my bones and screwed pins in
