If the bruising was a remnant from her facelift, then Carl could be in the clear for having caused it and was furious that she exaggerated the marks with makeup and implicated him.
Not saying there wasn't SOME sort of altercation between the two of them and he may still have been violent - just not specifically responsible for that particular bruise.

Wouldn't they change the locks when they repossess something though? Is she actually in the house or just taking photos in the grounds to make out she is? If it has been repossessed the mortgage company needs to fence it off and have it guarded 24/7, you wouldn't want someone breaking in and stealing that lovely 'priceywoods' sign!
