Im also going to hell for this but DD was no saint either. He was notorious in the 90s for his spin doctoring antics which certainly contributed to New Labour getting a reputation for being economical with the actualité
He probably would have been all in favour of Kate extracting as much £ as possible from the situation. Although even he might have baulked slightly at her telling the nation he was shitting the bed seven times a day.

He was a massive coke and booze hound as well with a voracious sexual appetite - threesomes, bondage - nothing off limits.

There was/is a lot of money going into that household. Along with the help of financial donations from people in high places I don’t think she will be facing homelessness any time soon. The sympathy card can’t be pulled forever more. I feel empathy that she’s a widow but she has to stop seeing everything as a money making exercise and make a stable home for her children best she can . She’s alot more fortunate than other people with the same circumstances.

Regarding her supposed massive unpaid tax bill with HMRC, it doesn't necessarily follow that people in the public eye are 'good with money' but that's why you hire accountants (and I don't mean dodgy ones who use tax-loopholes like whoever advises Lorraine Kelly or Gary Lineker).I remember when the so-called 'Llyod's Names' lost an absolute tit-ton of money, that was all down to greed. There's very rarely if ever 'an investment opportunity too good too miss'. Not sure where I'm going with this, but given Kate's salary (and very rich friends) it seems ridiculous to me that she should be in 'financial trouble'. Ludicrous in fact.

Looks like Elton has reworked Candle In The Wind Again

Goodbye Derek D

Though I never knew you at all

You had the grace to tit yourself

While Kate around you cared

Called up the Mail

And she whispered intimate details

They set you on the front page

And your dignity was lost for pay.

It seem to me you lived your latter life

So Kate could make kerching

Never knowing who to cling to

While she went cashing in

We feel like we all know you

Thanks to GMB and print

Now Kates cash cow has burned out

But at least she M.B.E.

COVID hit you hard

But poor Kate was the toughest role she played

Her books and tears made her a superstar

But your privacy was the price you paid

Even when you died

Kate the martyr’s star shone through

Thinking of a new book deal

And a documentary or two

It seem to me you lived your latter life

So Kate could make kerching

Never knowing who to cling to

While she went cashing in

We feel like we all know you

Thanks to GMB and print

Now Kates cash cow has burned out

But at least she M.B.E.
Careful, they might release it as a charity single. All proceeds go to the grieving widow.

If you have a high tax bill, it usually means you have earned a lot to warrant it.
As a contractor, I put aside enough funds each month to pay my tax bill.
If not, then I challenge it.

I go by the current IR35 tax rules.
If HMRC are not happy with what we are doing, then they need to speak to the Government about it.
It is a legal system, and I abide by the rules.

I fully agree with Kaye Adams and Eamonn Holmes on this.
They are obeying the rules, however you may feel about it.

I don’t believe Kate staged those paps yesterday. They were outside in a public place taking photos, it’s not as though they were inside church. Of course they were going to be there, you only need to look who the mourners were. A former PM, Elton John….would have their own security, hence why the police were there and the press were contained.
Do you honestly think had Kate said ‘no’ that they’d listen?!
Kate has made some questionable decisions in terms of Derek & his privacy, but she’s not powerful enough to allow or disallow the press to take photos in a public area. Even I knew what day and where the funeral was taking place - nobody needed tipping off!

Obviously Darcy will be on the show in some capacity.

“Obviously?” Why be mean about a kid who’s just lost her father?

Given the nepotism that is rife in television I just think if Garraway is given a job on This Morning she will find a way to get her daughter a job on there too. I don't see how that is being 'mean', I think it's quite a reasonable assertion. Maybe Kate and Darcy will follow in the footsteps of Bradley Walsh and his son Barney. That's all I'm suggesting.

That might be true, in your experience. But it's like the people who say the same about <insert unpleasant person>. Unless you're with a person 24hrs a day, everyday, it's impossible to say how a person 'is'. I just formed my view from the numerous articles I've read over the past few months about Derek, who his 'friends' were, and the types of 'jobs' he was attracted to. Seriously though, who was the last ' political spin doctor' you saw and thought? "Aw ... they seem like a truly lovely, wonderful, honest person'.
The poster is alllowed to have their view. They actually knew the deceased. I have really no opinion about Derek Draper or Kate but you certainly do. This poster that knew him should be allowed to have a differing opinion.

Exclusive reveal of the cover art - that custom DD piano 💀

I was accused of being 'mean' to Darcy and so I defended myself through reasoning. I'm not sure where you get the idea that I don't think other posters aren't allowed to have their view. I love reading other peoples views! That's why I'm here!

You were responding to someone that said they knew Derek. Your reply copied below.

Regardless of anyone actually knowing Derek I think it's fair to assume that he was a larger than life character who took risks and came a cropper in his political wheeler dealings. He could well have been a great dad and husband though....but he had his shortcomings as do we all. It's a bit rich to style him as a "titan" of politics. He got rumbled and went into psychotherapy....

Exactly this, someone with a mesured opinion!
You can’t say “unless you’re with someone 24 hours, you don’t know” (or words to that effect) and then continue hammering your own opinion of someone! I started to comment something similar, but couldn’t be bothered with the pile on!

Can’t see where @Ndrangheta said anyone couldn’t have an opinion? They were literally just explaining their view - their own opinion!
Anyway, back to the actual topic 🙄 I really doubt Kate minded at all about the pap shots at the funeral. I thought the ones of a close up of Darcy holding his coffin was too much personally.

I find it vile she invited the press her daughter carried her dad’s coffin imagine putting camera’s in your children’s face at their dad’s funeral whilst your mates flash their designer bags.
I posted somewhere on the previous page that i don’t think Kate invited them. The paps don’t need an invitation to turn up on the street to an event that a lot of people is taking place - you only need to take a look at the high profile attendees to know that the press are going to turn up.
Do you think that Kate would have the power to say yes or no to them turning up & getting a shot of everyone? Of course not!

But according to The Mirror article she did invite them

Did she though? Did she invite them? The Mirror says so, but is this true?

Whatever the view towards this family I feel it highlights that it is extremely insensitive and distasteful for any media outlet to be taking pictures at a funeral.

Is nothing off limits?

Can you imagine at your own brother/dad/husbands funeral you have cameras clicking?

The media are sharks...we see it time and time again they love a story. If covid taught us anything we shouldn't take the media at face value.

haha, it did actually dawn on me at the time of writing that I contradicted myself, but it's all good content! I still think Derek's a tosser, but obviously I'm sad he suffered and he's dead. Read that article I just posted above ... it's shocking.
