Ah, but all of us commoners aren't meant to know about such technical things. We just have to taker her word that it's the worst website crash in the history of crashes 😂
Just out of interest I looked up and it's hosted by GoDaddy, who have 24/7 help and are one of the biggest hosts in the world. But Jackie's blog made using the most tried and tested codebase on the internet was so special it took days of work to fix 😆

Even if it was her own fault for some dodgy plugin, would be quick to disable and get it back live.

I really shouldn't think about it, trying to make what she says make sense is like trying to put a champagne cork back in the bottle 🤪

This whole site down thing is baffling. It's just a wordpress as are over 1/3rd of all the sites on the internet. It's nothing complicated and managed wordpress hosting is pretty cheap. Then it would never go down unless through user error, and in that case they would help get it back online in minutes.

Why on earth would 9 years of "work" be lost. Surely in those 9 years she spent a few minutes making a backup?
That's what I don't get. Why doesn't she back her stuff up or else get someone with a clue to manage her stuff to stop her losing stuff. She seems like the most clueless website owner in the history of websites.

So much funny herein

I can believe the Wordpress site is down, tbh Wordpress has moved on leaps and bounds in the last decade and her site may be reliant on deprecated features, or just it’s too hot a mess to maintain especially as her tech support is an unpaid mate (comrade as ever).
I can believe it would be down if she was using old plugins that were no longer supported. But if that is your work you'd make sure that you use good quality plugins still supported and compatible else it's just waiting for bomb to go off.

It's more epic bad planning and underinvestment storing up problems that would be easy to avoid.

If it was old plugins, she could have just disabled them to get the site back live.

It's more epic bad planning that would make her site down by not fixing something easily preventable.

I just assumed Vlad was messing with her 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh God the mince rinsers and the tea towel fire hazards. Why why why in the ever loving heck would you put a whole chicken in a slow cooker? That group is batshit and I love it.

You would if you didn’t know how to use an oven.

Actually, I have put whole chickens in a slow cooker. It’s like poaching, I suppose. Meat absolutely falls of the bone and is really tender. It’s definitely not the worst slow cooker idea out there.

That would be the “omelette” 🤣

Fraus, I can’t handle the “it’s dinner / tea” chat. It’s not a novelty that people across the country speak differently. I fear one Frau is about to rock up and explain in great detail all about her candlelight suppers, the music that’s played, the offspring that perform, and the amazing array of tableware they’ve collected over the years.

There’s a poster on Mumsnet who’s prone to this. Always with the me-railing and humble bragging. Once posted a photo of a Parisian luxury hotel suite and claimed it was her bedroom. I’m starting to wonder if it’s the same person.

I think shed be more successful if she duck of all the affiliated links and ads and just did like all the other cooks/ chefs do. bleeping cook something.
True, but that might involve having to do some work. Whereas Jack’s strategy apparently is to generate as much income as possible for as little activity as possible (and preferably no actual activity at all).

The thing is most people invest in their website as it’s a virtual storefront & essential marketing mechanism these days? She has had a really good innings with the same site for a DECADE, it’s time to put a bit of cash behind it and renovate. It’s an allowable business expense to boot so doesn’t need to eat into the £20 ASDA or £120 Ocado budget x
I've just worked for a small business writing the copy for their wordpress site. They spent around $300 on the theme and a few add-ons and then $2000 on a web designer to put everything where it needs to be and personalise stuff with their brand colours, etc. For one and a half sideboards they have a cracking little site with great functionality relating to their business. And all of it is of course a legitimate business expense.
Jack, if you need a good web designer, just triangulate me and I can pass on her details x
