Have we checked around the country for pantomimes doing 'Jack and the Rinsed Beanstalk' productions?
At a pinch she could play Widow Manky in Aladdin.
I'd pay to see her if I could shout "HMRC is behind you!"

Off topic, but Nicola Miller is currently having the time of her life in America and her Twitter account is full of food, singing, dancing and the joys of life. Just what you'd expect from a professional food writer.
It’s been a marvellous wander through food that Nicola has given us. I feel like I’ve put a stone on just looking at those photos.
The joy of being able to shout ‘HMRC is behind you’ would be a chefs kiss.

I wonder... have any consumer journalists ever tried to verify Jack's dodgy maths? Cos they may be interested in Curry's pushing such obvious falsehoods on potential buyers.

I would nudge it in the direction of the More Or Less team at Radio 4 but I don't know if Tim Harford has managed to crawl out of Guest's bumhole after that cringe book chapter of lies.

This was an interesting read - so many guest parallels. I really liked the part about "we need to stop just accepting someone is doing good because they or others say so":

Not going to rehash all the Cpt Tom stuff here, but I couldn't quite believe what I was watching unfold as he was elevated to sainthood. Shame I didn't apply the same cynicism to Jack Monroe until i got signposted to here 🤷‍♂️ (Although to be clear, she's never had a penny off me).
Interesting article, thank you HG

I remember me and a friend having to message each other privately away from the group we were in, so that we could call Captain Tom a media bleep whilst our friends were all texting fivers left right and centre!

I wonder if FullFact could look, not specifically at the Curry’s jackmaffs but at whether air fryers can really save people money / how long it would take to recoup the expense of the spenny ones
If I’m being honest I’d probably believe Jack over anything full fact “verify”. I would LOVE to see Martin mate pick their ridiculous coatings apart but it’s never going to happen.

I think air fryers do save money on electricity bills if you use one instead of using your oven. I suspect the most savings are made by people who are cooking multiple quick meals, like people with young children who eat earlier than their parents or households with teenagers who are in and out at odd times. How long it takes to recoup the cost is however a different matter. Unless you find one in a puddle of course, like I did*.

*Okay, it wasn’t actually a puddle. My MIL bought herself the two drawer ninja, used it once, burnt her sausages, decided she didn’t want it and gave it to me. I use it practically every day so I’m hugely grateful for those burnt sausages.

News story this morning: energy customers in £2.6bn arrears. Average energy debt for people with a disability is just shy of £1800. I await any 'activist' who was a year ago advising their Glastonbury sized audience to cancel their DDs and only pay for what they actually used/thought was fair/whatever it was, breaking cover on their social media to advise affected people on how to deal with their arrears.
