Please can I just mither for a minute about the recipe for the vegetarian 'gratin': https://archive.ph/2023.10.14-10344...es-air-fryer-and-pressure-cooker-recipes.html
This is to be cooked in this Tefal Turbo pressure cooker: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/t...-pressure-cooker-black-10240477.html?q=575341

Recipe and ingredients pasted below, my commentary in bold:

Vegetarian ratatouille layered gratin
Serves: 4 people.
Preparation time: 15 minutes.
Cooking time: 10 minutes.

Ingredients
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 medium onion
225g can chopped tomatoes
1 small red pepper
100g white long grain rice This really isn't a lot of rice for 4 people! Is this meant to be a whole supper?
100ml water
2 courgettes
1 aubergine
1 crushed clove of garlic
½ tbsp mixed dried herbs
A garnish of fresh parsley
150g cheddar cheese grated
150g Greek feta cheese [save a small portion for garnishing, at the end]
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt and pepper

Method
1. Thinly slice the courgettes, aubergine, onion and red pepper. Add all into a medium sized bowl. WHY??
2. Add the oil, paprika, mixed dried herbs and season with salt and pepper. Mix this well. Would help if she said to pop the kettle on at this point.
3. Add the uncooked rice into the pressure cooker with the chopped tomatoes and mix. No salt I notice...mmm, bland
4. Add the boiling water, put the lid back on and lock it. Turn the device on the rice cooker, close the lid and bring to pressure. Cook for 5 minutes at 120C. I query the ratio of liquid to rice here just because it's Jack, but can't be arsed to calculate it properly. Also "Turn the device on the rice cooker" - nice proofreading, folks...
5. Heat the cooking oil in a frying pan and lightly fry the courgettes, aubergine, onion and red pepper mix. You've used the oil twice! Once to mix with the sliced veg in a bowl in step 2 (WHY?) and again here in the pan.
6. Dice the garlic finely, and place this with the cooked vegetables in layers on top of the cooked rice. Add a dash of paprika, mixed herbs and salt and pepper on top. You've already used the herbs, paprika and seasoning in step 2
7. Then continue to layer the rice, then the vegetable mixture and seasoning until the ingredients run out. Within each layer add a sprinkling of the feta cheese. Bad luck if you've got to this step and already dumped all your veg on top of the rice - it's unclear that you should take out most of the rice, leaving one layer, then build up alternating layers of veg and rice.
8. Add a sprinkling of cheddar cheese on the top, close the pressure cooker lid and bring to full pressure. A sprinkling of cheddar? Or all the cheddar? 150g grated cheddar is a quite a lot of cheese! Also, steam cooked cheddar! mmmm Rubbery!!
7. Cook for 10 minutes using the ‘slow cook’ function.
8. Once cooking has finished, remove the pressure which has built up inside by using the release button. Then remove the lid carefully as some residual steam may escape.
9. Once plated, garnish it with parsley and any remaining feta and serve. So, the whole point of a gratin is that it's grilled - literally what the word means. no mention of browning it off to give a nice melty toasty topping. The Tefal cooker does actually have a 'Brown' function, but does she mention it? Nope. And the dish itself isn't oven safe so I wouldn't recommend putting it under a grill or in the oven to crisp up. Triple tested my arse. No wonder there isn't a picture of this one, I bet it looks disgusting.

Also ... Why are we bringing it to pressure if we're then using the 'slow cook' function for 10 mins? May be a difference between terminologies, but my pressure cooker has a slow cook function which is ... Like a slow cooker. And therefore doesn't require pressurising.

If it's a typo and it should be pressure cooked (doesn't make sense to me as my cooker pressurises after you choose a setting but again, could be wrong, I've only owned the one), I'm skeptical about 300ml (ish, water and tomatoes) of liquid being enough to cook and not burn it to the bottom (said as someone who once tried to pressure cook a dryish slow cook recipe without thinking)

Nice work @MavisBeacon. You've put more effort into this one post than Jack put into her "recipe" development.

Also a quarter onion, aubergine and (small) pepper, a quarter can of tomatoes, plus a half courgette and 25g rice isn't going to keep the hunger at bay, is it? Even if it's smothered in cheese.

She's either rehashed one of her slop recipes for the slow cooker or stolen someone else's without checking it works in a pressure cooker. The previous and later instructions refer to pressure cooking.

The Tefal appliance has pressure cook and slow cook functions - unclear if the slow cooker function involves pressurising: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/t...-pressure-cooker-black-10240477.html?q=575341
Either way, if this is a recipe solely for this device, then so much for Guest's claims that she doesn't like to make recipes for 'specialist equipment'.

My air fryer has saved me a fortune as I am on my own and rarely use my oven now.
Same here, I only use the oven for say a large roast or cupcakes (only because I haven't found the right size tin yet 😁).
However, I would very much like to know *how* Currys worked out the 70 etc pounds saving, it doesn't make sense.
But then again, they are the same misguided people who asked the Queen of Povs to provide recipes for the appliances. No due diligence beforehand, eh.

Of all the vile things I’ve read in her own delightful words on the Jack Monroe-Munroe threads over the years, I never thought it would be “do not rinse or clean the drawer- you want that sausage fat and flavour for your risotto!” that would tip me over the edge.

She is shite isn't she? I also don't believe that would happily serve 4 people!

(I use happily loosely. Even if right amount of ingredients it sounds gross)

Pressure cook grated cheddar! What? That will come out watery vileness. She has no idea whatsoever how to cook with a pressure cooker.

ETA: She has no idea whatsoever how to cook.

Luckily I'm wearing my not-found-in-a-puddle anti nausea band so I can keep up with the threads instead of running off to F&D to look at pandas. 👍 🐼
