I remember wanting hair like Marc Bolan, I was 15 in 1970 when Ride a white swan was in the charts. Mum said she would perm my shoulder length hair (she did all the neighbours home perms). I came out looking like Phyllis Pearce off Corry. She had just put rollers in the same as she did for her mates. I had to go to the hairdressers for them to sort it....I loved that spiral perm. 😂😂😂

It really annoys me when people start bigging themselves up when they get famous and claiming that they are models and journalists, photographers

Anyone remember the I have 5 and a half GCSEs and I used to work in a chippy in her bio. Look how far I’ve come! I used to work in a chippy.

Be quiet you melt. You are as much of a poet and a photographer as I am.

You take that back! FOUR and a haf GCSES.

‘According to different sources’ should be her slogan.

This. I'm very interested in the spread of people who use Tattle, you can tell from grammar, syntax, humour etc as well as message content that there's such a huge range of class, age, education and taste here. I think it's really fascinating how many people on the Jack thread a) have direct experience of the claims she makes and b) are very evidently either highly educated, very successful in their careers or just bleeping smart as hell. It's probably the highest concentration of critical thinkers I've come across in a non-academic setting. And man, does she HATE us for it.
SO true (and would argue it has a HIGHER concentration of critical thinkers than many of the academic circles I hang out in... :ROFLMAO: ). I've been consistently educated, challenged and humbled by the range of experiences and knowledges displayed on this forum (I'm in such a bubble on twitter which often isn't ideal). Not sure why JM has attracted such a sweet spot of awesome people but I guarantee a part of her is jealous she can't get in the club - sorry Jack, this aint the Groucho!

You're right, back when I was little girls and boys just mingled together. And the clothing was definitely as you describe. Possibly dresses for parties or something but otherwise it was leggings, cords and jeans for me.

Young girls dress so very differently now, so much more glammed up. I look at photos of when me and my friends were 13ish and there's a huge difference to teens now. Particularly with makeup. A fruity Chapstick and Collection 2000 mascara was about as glam as it got back in the day 😂
A family friend sent me some Bath&BodyWorks lipbalm in exotic flavours, such as strawberry shortcake and wild cranberry from the USA when I was about 14. I felt so glam. Simpler times.

Lol this is true, I think I just spend too much time with male politics researchers who aggressively critique everything you ever say, ever, so these threads feel more of a safe space for me (until Jack comes bounding online, ofc).

Strongly agree that this is my favourite Tattle thread by far (sorry, Glen and Sly Hooper, your time in the sun is over).

I agree with all the posts about how childhood used to be less gendered. I was born in the mid 90s when things were starting to revert back to the distinctions of more boy and girl stuff, but a lot of clothes / toys etc were still considered just ‘kid’ stuff. The whole gender neutral stuff going on feels like there is a quota for a 50/50 split, or in the case of clothes, exclusively beige stuff?! Idk, I know it’s a minefield. My toddler chooses her own stuff now, it saves me the headache

The SODs thread is dying a slow, limping death. I think any of us left contributing there are waiting for FODot (I include myself in this waiting room).

Agree with @Saint_clemmie, when I was growing up in the 90s boys and girls wore pretty much the same thing until they were teenagers - trackie bottoms, plain t shirts or maybe one your auntie brought back from Mallorca one summer!

My mum would mostly get our clothes from the charity shop or hand-me-downs from older kids in the village because we'd grow out of it all so quickly/get it covered in dirt that there was no point spending money on it. My younger sister went through a bit of a 'girly' phase from around 12 but it was literally just a cheap nasty lip gloss she got from Claire's with her pocket money, or one of those plastic choker necklaces that came free with a magazine. Hardly the contouring and mega eyebrows you see on little girls now (although I am myself partial to a strong brow but I'm in my thirties!).

We've got a little boy and have tried our best to steer him away from the gendered stuff as much as possible, dressing him in bright colours like yellow, green, orange. But when family get him stuff it's always blue clothes, toy cars etc. He has no interest in the toy cars btw, his favourite toy at the moment is a flamingo in a tutu that he saw in the shop and wouldn't put down 😂

Totally random this and I can't remember who it was who recommended the Philips Lumea but I finally bit the bullet and got one. Not to sound like 'my Greek roots' JM but I'm Jewish-Scottish so very dark, thick hair and pale skin. NOTHING is helping shift my 'tache since having the baby so fingers crossed this will do that trick... anyway thanks for the recommendation hausfraus x
