Sorry if I’m incredibly late to the party, but my Jack origin story comes through my Mum. My mum worked for DWP all of her working life, and can sniff out grifters and fraudsters from a mile away. I should point out here that she is also very left-wing, and she herself would point out that benefit fraud etc makes up a very small minority of claims, and most people who receive benefits don’t always get everything they’re entitled to. The small minority of people making fraudulent claims tend to be memorable, and she also sat next to the fraud team and would hear a lot of stories. She’s also a big twitter user and at the start of lockdown she turned to me and said “That Jack Monroe is full of tit”, and at the time I thought she was being incredibly harsh on a poor single mother who’d had a hard time. I ended up googling Jack, found these threads and the rest is history. My mum has always been forensic with an excellent bullshit detector.
ETA: not suggesting in any way Jack has ever done anything sketchy re benefits, and that wasn’t my mum’s opinion either. She’s just very experienced in spotting lies and inconsistencies. Extremely annoying when I was a teenager and couldn’t get away with anything.

Did she say which elements of her story etc specifically were full of tit?
