It’s ok the ones I googled were bad enough. Honestly, who is that book for?
Obviously it’s for Jack to be able to publish a book and pretend it’s helping the povs. I really think if I were a burre bland eater I’d forego it for a while and just have spaghetti hoops on toast in the meantime. If I was the kind of person who has spaghetti hoops on toast for tea anyway (I am!) why would I be arsing about with recipes that have a million “new” ingredients to add that I can’t buy, to make something I might hate?
URGh she grates my mushrooms.
I know we know all this but that fundraiser could buy SO. MUCH. FOOD.

It would be more helpful to show how to jazz up spaghetti on hoops, like frying up some mushrooms for extra selenium (a fantastic mineral to add to a diet), or adding some of cheap bacon bits that she likes sorting out.

Just simple tinned dishes, made a bit fancier with extra nutrients, that's all she needed to do!

Why would someone using a food bank want a recipe book, I’ve never understood it. A pamphlet maybe with some suggestions of ways to put things together maybe.
Recipes that require multiple ingredients - nope. What if you don’t get half the things needed, pop to the shops. I’ve always thought it was massively pointless.
It’s to “better” them. You know, people who use food banks are thick as two short planks, no idea how to make food*, and Jack will be ideal to show them how**

*absolutely not my view.
**definitely also not true.

I am happy to oblige. Behold, the homemade baked bean recipe! Rinse the beans, then re-sauce them with a tin of tomatoes, salt and sugar. 15 minutes cooking baked beans. Mush, anyone?

Exactly, I will publish a big book of Hotes Household Mithering
Chapter 1. Hotes Oats
Why apples have no place being grated and added to oats
How to make nice porridge in the slow cooker
Chapter 2. Hotes Twice as Nice - two tins= two din dins
How to use a tin of beans as one meal and a tin of tomatoes, onion, salt, sugar as pasta sauce for a whole other meal!!!
How to not put a tin of fruit cocktail in a cake, making fruit cocktail for one day and maybe a cake another day
How to not put a tin of custard in cake mix, and make a cake one day and have custard...you get the picture
Chapter 3. Hotes Notes
Using any scrap paper to hand to make new things - such as recycled paper, paper wrapping, pictures etc
Chapter 4 Hotes Home Style
Using the spine and cover of any book you have already ripped the pages from, to make a handy dinner tray
Chapter 5 Hotes Votes
Apropos of nothing, an essay on why voting matters and spoiling your ballot is a dick move

It's only right that I post this one as well since we're all in fancy hats. Caroline whohashands says this Spam pie is gastropub good 🤥View attachment 842192 q

omg! A whole paragraph about what she considers to be a proper pie and detailing her disappointment on receiving an inferior version, then going on to say that with all that in mind this recipe is, in fact, the inferior version. i love it

So basically she has wasted potential for 2 meals

she could have just served beans on toast

then used the onion and tin of tomatoes and a stock cube to make a basic soup or pasta sauce but she decides to duck about for no reason.

This makes zero sense?! Also not sure how this even works. 20 minutes cooking time plus prep for BAKED BEANS?
It states clearly at the start of the book that povs have to buy a tin opener as cheap tins don’t have ring pulls. This book has been written with this in mind, that the poorest in society often pay more for cheaper items, a “poverty tax” if you will. Their key card electric costs more. And now so do their baked beans. Instead of food, they are given a book telling them how to use twice as much time effort food and leccy to produce a basic meal. Also Jack sells more books.
Remember for each book Jack gets less than 50p, so she needs to shift at least 100 to pay for that wanky dog skeleton tat (plus tax)
