So happy for Karen! This might be silly question but expecting my first , do they only take the baby from you for a few hours at night if you are private patient or is it just the way if you had really traumatic labour etc or how does it work ? I’ve seen a few people mention this but just wondered ?
Not offered on my first, pre Covid baby, but offered on my second when no visitors were allowed into the hospitals. Think the midwives felt sorry for us not getting any sleep or relief being on our own!

Mine was took on night 2 for a few hours, she took a few other babies too but any breastfed babies stayed with their mothers.. I didn’t have a section.. I think it depends on the midwife that’s on if she wants to take them or not

Completely depends on the hospital and availability of staff. Nurseries are no longer an actual thing. They might bring your baby to the nurses station for a short while depending on circumstances but it's not standard and staff get into trouble with management for doing it sometimes. If there is no staff member free then they can't take your baby and then leave them unattended.

Also definitely nothing to do with public or private. Your paying your consultant to go private, not the midwives...

It is so hard in the 1st few nights after any birth but definitely for women who's mobility is severely restricted, like after a c section, especially on the first night, trying to get out of bed to your baby is, in my opinion not safe and I wish there was more support there.

Birth by c section is perfectly normal, just not vaginal.

Returnmyrabbits is referring to normal physiological birth as opposed to caesarean, which would be a surgical intervention. Its not a dig, one is normal, as in can occur on it's own, one has (thank God) been created by man. Both are flawed and can go horribly wrong. Once the end result is a well mom and a well baby who cares. Caesarean is common and necessary and a preference for many women but it's not normal, it's major abdominal surgery where you're handed a newborn to mind at the end... that's an exception to the norm 😳

They’ll take the baby from first time moms usually! Regardless of being public of not and in cork it’s non-Fri the nursery nurse is there

Sorry if I offended you by the wording Thump! I may have been on my second glass of wine after a two hour bedtime 😅 But Louber is correct that I was referring to natural vaginal birth where you likely wouldn't need as much assistance as someone who had c section 😊
Thanks, I think language is important, it can be very upsetting to end up delivering by cs when you had hoped for a vaginal delivery and there can be a sense of shame for some women. It doesn’t help also with medical terms like failure to progress etc. as if you have failed to do the most natural thing in the world. A vaginal delivery is a vaginal delivery and a cs delivery is a cs delivery. At the end of the day a safe delivery with a mom and baby who are well is the most important thing.

Yes this 😍 My sisters crass colleague launched a series of insensitive questions at her following her CS, that seriously upset her. She asked (1) did she feel like her body failed her (2) did she feel her bond was less with the baby that was delivered by CS vs the other 2 vaginal. We really need to move beyond those negative connotations in Ireland given the high percentage of babies delivered this way.

I got offered this on my section which I took and didn't get it on my 2 natural deliveries
With covid I doubt it's offered

Ollieababywish using her go fund me to rent a 1 bed apartment for 1000$ a month in Greece. Renting out the sofa bed for more then the nightly average at 40-50$ p/n, but don't worry it's a good deal because she will help with your taxis...
Unbelievable
Don’t forget she’s going to ask Serum if she can work for them while she’s there. She’s not a healthcare worker, she doesn’t speak Greek, every time she’s in Greece there’s some disaster that strangers need to bail her out of. But she’s going to work for an IVF clinic?! What planet is this woman on?

Also, her last IVF attempt is in May. She’ll know within two weeks whether it’s worked or not. If it’s worked then she should be linking in with her GP and hospital in Ireland early considering her history. If it doesn’t work, the worst place she could be is on her own in a foreign country without the support system she needs for even basic tasks.

This plan just screams disaster.

As noted today plate in leg is to come out in 3 months and currently has lots of inflammation. Surely any reputable clinic would say to have that issue resolved before moving forward?

She’s not living in the real world at all

Honestly this is chaos. Can’t believe she hasn’t one decent friend or family member that would talk to her but maybe she’s not listening! I couldn’t think of anything worse than staying with her on her sofa bed when going on a holiday while she uses strangers money to fund herself.
Seems she has a decent friend! Still trying to talk her way around it though...

She actually has such an excellent support structure. The friend that stepped in and said it, fair play.

Tbh I don't think she was doing it from a bad place. I think she's scatty as hell and genuinely thinks she'd be able to help people that way. She's daft.

She's not coming across as someone who's any way good at managing her money - lolling about losing the false tooth that cost 390 euro.

last thing someone who is travelling for ivf needs is the madcap Ollie energy; being dragged onto her stories and the nights out. Reputation is everything in the fertility world so I'd be stunned is serum employed her - but, if she's influencing people to go there for treatment I do think they could do Ollie a discount.

such a mad idea. If the ivf works she'll be tired and maybe first trimester nauseous - and worried about miscarriage. Not a good idea to be in a foreign country thinking you'll be able to support otherswith their ivf and help them with taxis (😂).If her ivf doesn't work nobody could judge her for feeling a bit down - better to be at home with friends and family, looking for work and having things to distract instead of hanging around serum and being mopey at the other ivf-ers on her sofa bed.

I think she's thinking it'll be like a summer working as a holiday rep or something, great fun and new friends in the sun.

She’s suggested this before and, not surprisingly, no one took her up on it. This could be a very lonely summer for her when she has so many very very good friends and family in Ireland.

This woman is just lost. I don’t think there’s any badness in her at all but she’s chaotic and all but said last weekend when drunk that she’s having a baby so she won’t be on her own. I hope she finds peace somehow but she’s a difficult watch at times.
