she's writing about racism all a while selling her gifted tat on depop the girl can multi task! I wish people like her did not use racism or any other current situations to their gain, its sad and pathetic and no one is fooled by it!! Where have they been living until now have they just realised there are people suffering and being persecuted because the colour of their skin, sexuality or race? why do they need something terrible to happen to raise awareness ....it is bad enough when I see them trying to convince people to buy hideous square shoes ( bottega v I am looking at you) now she's preaching about race, B...please go fix yourself and stick to what you don't know "fashion" - when I look at her and her content its like looking in a Lydia mirror only uglier if that is even possible, same dressing rooms, same brands, same content, they drag their partners who are also now influencers on free trips and sh*t, its like a completion on who's worse, I wish there was a virus that would wipe out influencers. ( not kill them 😁 of course , just be rid of them) its about time these parasites did a honest days job like the rest of us!

she utterly makes me sick, now she's filling her stories with black influencers she recommends - never mentioned any of them before!

I honestly feel her sharing other dark skin influencer’s Instagram is a show of superiority. That they NEED her platform to drive others to theirs. It’s not genuine as she wasn’t doing this before all of this happened.
As a half white half mauritian with dark skin (so not white passing at all) I would feel insulted if all of a sudden these influencers were sharing my page as a result of severe racism and not on my own merits.

this is a really good point, makes me uncomfortable too. It would feel more genuine if she had reached out to those women and asked if they minded if she featured their account first. I wonder how they feel about a white woman using them like a prop to show Vick is all about diversity when we know she isn’t.

As is with COVID-19 and posting gratitude to NHS workers. Long gone and forgotten. What’s the next box to tick?

this Is exactly how it feels. I wonder if any of these influencers will be talking about George Floyd next week??

I disagree. And it is irrelevant to me if that she is doing this now, after the events. It is never too late and even if she leads just ONE of her followers to those dark skin influencers accounts, she will be helping, she will be doing some good. Victoria is giving the chance to her audience to learn, to improve and to change the pattern.
as someone said, you’re damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t. I much prefer her approach than Tamara’s for example, who has been sharing her Chanel choker and the pizza she had for dinner.
This is the time to stop what your doing, and direct your audiences to more pressing issues. If you guys have the time, have a look at the post from Gabrielle Hackworthy (one of the top UK brands consultants), because I think it is spot on.In a few words, she says influencers cannot be silent, and they should influence people to care about more than an outfit. And if influencers decide to post a selfie or a picture of what they are eating, they are acknowledging that they have the freedom and time to care about other things than the fight for racial justice.👏👏👏

[To preface what i say below I very much respect your words and opinion and enjoy talking to those who opinions differ from mine as it results in growth and more empathetic views towards others. The great thing about this site is that we are all so different, different backgrounds, grew up in different climates and therefore, share an alternative perspective on the world.]

If people are relying on someone like Victoria to be educated on this like you said, they are not looking in the right place. And to be honest, she shouldn't be held to that standard, she has no in depth understanding of the history of injustice in America, and there is a stark contrast between her and other influencers who have always had a political voice and/or have not been afraid to share their opinion on matters when they aren't the current "hype" (so to say, i can't think of a better word).

Once this dies down, do you really think she will continue to talk about this? No, she will continue to sell consumerism. People need to look to those who have always expressed their voice and have genuine concern. Holding influencers to every action they make when an event like this happens, or the Australian bushfires (i live here) or the Rainforests is setting them up to provide ill informed opinions, or just resharing what everyone has seen before.

Yes they have a platform, but so does Trump and look at the nonsense he spits out. Celebrities and Influencers either need to educate themselves or not be held to a standard where they are expected to "educate" others, as they are just as il-informed as your everyday Joe. That is not their job, their place, or within their capabilities (not all of them of course).

People who aimlessly follow these influencers and influencers themselves will not result in a change of pattern, as they need a true understanding and care of what is happening. This to them is unfortunately the latest bandwagon to hop onto until it dies down. Without genuine concern, political changes and cultural/environmental ones will not be made to make the world a fairer place. Subtle racism is very much alive in those who think "speaking out" or signing a petition is enough. Unless more people care, really really care, things will not change.

Im sorry if this was ramble Ive had the whooping cough for 4 weeks and im an analyst so my mind is pretty fried right now (9PM my time).

@niogkjd couldn't agree more. Influencers don't give a duck about these issues, they are here to sell and make money off their followers and I'll never be convinced otherwise. The whole influencer and hyper consumerism culture is not the right platform to voice these issues on. She'll be back to posting about a free 2k Samsung TV or whatever ridiculous freebie it is she's getting before long

Interesting she’s following black Instagrammere now ..,even more interesting that she, Lydia and others in the L’Oréal campaign stayed completely silent when Amena khan also in the campaign and a WOC resigned/got kicked off (Gal Badot didn’t have to resign having made similar comments as ti amena about Gaza from the other side). I’m not condoning either of their comments/tweets. Point being ITF and Lidl could’ve still followed Amena or said something I n support if her decision to resign..but no why would they risk their own “coin”.....

The most annoying thing to me is that they are all so shallow and insensitive to keep REPOSTING!!! someone else’s quotes and slogans! That is what makes the whole “bringing attention to an issue” so FAKE to me. Use your own voice and experience if you are here to educate and encourage positive change. Below is the example. I’ve seen this poster 20 smth times today. I’m sick and tired of all shallow people with no opinion of their own who keep reposting same pics to get it off their chest.

Hi ladies, just want to send you all love. My heart is so heavy and sick over everything that’s happening here in America. Thank you all for your interesting and respectful discussions!

I know influencers bash Tattle all the time but one thing I can say, the people here aren’t phony! Keep being you ♥

Influencers bash Tattle because it shines a light on their unsavoury practices. I was once "influenced" by these people and am so grateful for Tattle ❤

Exactly! I've had a lot of critique in other threads, but I would really rather hear nothing at all than hear insincere words that are just there to follow the trend.

I agree with the reposting. I noticed one of her stories she added her tag so if someone shares it her handle is visable. Seems like she’s capitalising on the situation.
However. Take this person. She studied politics at uni and has always expressed her opinion very intellectually etc. I respect that she made it a point to tell people not to reshare her story but the original one which is from a dark skin person.

Its like when makeup brands send every shade of foundation, why dont these influencers offer to give the darker shades away to their followers?
I don’t think they share or give anything away ....I also can’t believe how many products they have “open” including lipsticks ...these all have expiry dates and each of these influencers has more than 7 lipsticks on the go. ...draws full of them. How is that sustainable? How many do they need to hoard? I can understand keeping products in boxes to use at a later date but these women were purchasing with their own hard cash I doubt they would have that many products and open on the go! I know even if a were extremely wealthy I simply wouldn’t have that attitude - I’m previous about all my stuff whether I’ve paid for it or my kind friends and family have gifted things to me. I really hope there is a backlash to this consumerism- yes we want to economy to recover but not with mindless consumerism.

When these influencers started out they were lauded (by myself included) as the alternatives to magazines full of ads and sponsors. They quickly morphed into (most of them) being completely commodified. They sold their souls for a box of lipsticks. Now when our backs are against the wall and it’s time to take a stand for many things, most of them are completely unable to make a stand of any importance or resonance.
They may have instagram houses but they’ll never be able to speak freely or authentically when they insist on switching between incredibly important messages and selling cast offs on depop (or “droop” as my phone autocorrected to). They simply can’t wrap their heads around a message of support overtaking their affiliate links.
