Horror films

Glad to hear, waiting for it to stream free.

Watched three over the weekend:

This was passable, not great, not terrible. Ema Horvath did a good job in it but ultimately I think it runs out of steam way before the end, and the finale really lacks any real excitement. 4/10

Saw X

Not a huge fan of the Saw series but heard good things about this, an interesting premise and all the traps were hardcore gore as expected, not for everyone's tastes. Still the tension at the end is undermined somewhat by the formula being stale. 6/10

Baghead

The title of this was a massive failure, it actively put us off selecting it beforehand. It's a nice concept, the opening is very interesting and the main location, a spooky old pub, is great. Unfortunately it trades in creepy for loud jump scares which goes against it, but there's definitely worse offerings out there. 5/10.

It's very interesting that you mentioned the title because it's put me off watching it even though I quite like the sound of the premise. Baghead sounds like a kids villain. I may give it a watch tonight.

For some reason they are churning out loads of stuff with terrible titles at the moment, saw one the other day for an action show (I think?)called 'Land of Bad'. It's not that hard to think of a better title than that, surely. I don't know if this is beacuse they are direct to streaming they don't need to sell it as much with the title like they would if they had to sell cinema tickets.

Watched Late Night With The Devil at the weekend, another strong concept but didn't manage to stick the landing for me, I think The Cleansing Hour is a better version.

Rewacthed a few Paranormal Activities this weekend, somehow they are considered comfort horror films in this house! 3 is my favourite, even the weaker ones have good elements though. Watched The Ghost Dimension last night, 'duck me Ryan next time I'm staying at Mom's' never fails to make me laugh.

I watched immaculate yesterday. I love syndney sweeney and thought she was great however wasn’t massively keen on the film itself…it was alright.

might watch Baghead soon.
I’m unsure about the hugh grant movie however it’s a different concept so will likely give it a watch when it comes on streaming services.

im genuinely going to go see longlegs on my own in cinemas if my sister won’t come see me. I hope it doesn’t disappoint but have briefly skimmed reviews which have all been positive!

I signed up for the free trial on Shudder in order to watch Late Night With The Devil so thought I'd make the most of it and watched Raven's Hollow last night. Very mediocre.

There's seems to be an awful lot of rubbish on Shudder. However it does have the Hell House LLC films on there. I enjoyed all three of the Abingdon Hotel ones. Not a bad entry into the found footage genre.

Just joining this thread as horror film fan (not a buff though). Don't get to watch as many as I'd like anymore as my husband isn't a fan. My daughter enjoys them though so have enjoyed going through all the Scream films with her!!

Last film I watched was Late Night With The Devil which I enjoyed for the most part. Interesting idea and some good performances. Oh, also watched Slotherhouse with some old uni chums (does that count?!) which I really enjoyed!!

Longlegs, spoiler free review:

It is a fresh idea, it's very atmospheric and for the most part everyone's performance is good: I suspect Cage's performance will split opinion. There are bits in the trailer that aren't in the final film, I know this is standard these days but I was expecting something slightly different. There's barely any scare factor here, more creepy mystery. I'll probably watch it again when it comes free on streaming.

I went to it last night and really enjoyed it although my husband didn't, I wonder if it'll be quite divisive? It is definitely creepy

Also enjoyed MaXXXine, I like the "X Trilogy" a lot. I can see why this one didn't appeal so much to fans of Pearl but I thought it was a great end to the trilogy (at least for now, the director is reportedly considering another one but said that it probably won't involve Maxine or Pearl)

Saw longlegs tonight and honestly it didn’t disappoint for me personally. Thought it was a good concept, bat tit crazy, I liked how it was filmed and Nick Cage really was 👌🏼
