I just did a bad thing: I half watched Holly’s latest (the bad) whilst baking (the good!) and it hit me - all these “productivity days” that Holly and others do are just the most boring, mundane, uninteresting and dull videos ever. Why? Because all they are doing is detailing every step of a very normal day that most working adults live. In very monotone voices. And repeat the same old sh** every video. How do they make money from this????

I haven't watched her new video (and probably won't tbh) but for some reason the thumbnail is so funny to me? Like in 2016 she was in cambridge and in 2021 she was in at a restaurant in london with her family, how does that relate to a video about university tips at all??
Exactly. I won't watch either, she spent 3 years in her room studying, hardly showing the libraries or other aspects of university.

That feeling when Holly claims that she "faced so many hurdles" and so many challenges during her time at university.. then goes on to explain what she means by this: She sometimes got a question wrong on one of her exams, and one time during her third year at Cambridge she got some constructive criticism on one of her essays, which caused her to have a mental breakdown (which she filmed, apparently it's on her channel).

Like wow Holly. Yes, absolutely that's "so many hurdles". A prime example of a university student who had it extremely hard in her life and really had to persevere through some incredible personal hardships huh.

(I'm sorry if I sound mean, I just had a rough day and a half and Holly's new video did not help lmao)

I agree. I sometimes feel that Holly often doesn’t check her privilege enough.

In no way am i saying that because she have privilege she shouldn’t have poor mental health or have gone through her ED etc. Instead I think Holly needs to take a step back and understand that most of her issues are actually first world problems, or problems that come from a place of privilege. She’s very eager to play the ‘I’m hard done by because of x y and z’ card, or go on misinformed rants about things she shouldn’t be giving advice on.

All in all I really see limited growth from Holly in a lot of aspects. She preaches growth and change and mindset shifting but I don’t see much to show for it.

1. her meals are still as regimented as before. She barely snacks and will never move out of her strict work regime and as a result I think her nutrition suffers.

2. ‘I’ve always eaten plain foods’ ‘plain good is just what I like’…. RED FLAG. She’s not willing to branch out at all and that in itself is enough to send alarm bells ringing everywhere.

3. marathon. Just another way to use exercise to take herself out of her mind and focused on her body. It’s clearly what dance did to her and as soon as it’s over I think shes going to have another mental collapse where all her thoughts that she’s been blocking flood over.

4. She’s still living with her family. Okay yes- not great timing with covid. But she really is acting like her 12 year old self half the time and I think it’s because she’s in the place she’s always been in. There’s definitely no growth there. Yes she’s learned to live with her family but will she learn to accept she can’t live there forever no matter how much she wants to?

5. she looks malnourished full stop. She may have her period back but her saying that that’s her body ‘at the place it should be’ is again a red flag. There’s so much more she needs to work on and she needs a therapist. ASAP.

@popsewini I've tried to write this as dispassionately as possible and put inline spoilers in, but truthfully, the entire video is a triggering word salad from Holly, so you might want to dip in and out of this in your own time. I don't have personal experience of an ED, but distant family members have, so there may be content that I've overlooked.

This is a hugely irresponsible video, Holly is trying to self-soothe and reassure herself over her weight gain. This is stuff she should be going over with a professional. There are a lot of red flags.

Background: She starts with a 'show of hands' asking the audience if they have ever been scared to gain weight.
She says she has gained weight and feels it's a huge achievement to talk about

She puts a Trigger warning after asking her audience for a show of hands if they fear weight gain

BMI talk She mentions a trip to the doctors earlier in the year where they weighed her and her BMI was in the 'healthy' range 'for the first time in a very long time.'
She says that she wasn't fully recovered on leaving school, but felt that growing and having diverse life experiences would help
She talks about having an orthorexic mindset

Appearance and social media influence she talks about wanting a thigh gap and described her legs as 'muscular and masculine'

Discussion about menstruation She cried when her periods returned after not having them for such a long time as it meant she had gained weight

Letting go of the 'fear' She was worried about what her family would think if she was to gain weight - returning from travelling really triggered this off. She associates her travel trousers with her time away

Clothing talk She talked about clothes getting tighter with weight gain and advises if people are triggered by this, they should sell or give away the clothes

Hormonal changes She talks about getting 'bloated' on a regular basis, even this is a normal physiological response to eating

Talk of feeling better She talks about feeling better and stronger, but makes no discussion about seeing a professional and adding a disclaimer that she herself is not a professional. Claims she is happier than ever but still has days where she is concerned about 'bloating'. States she can suppress negative thoughts

It’s another video where she talks about how unwell she used to be and how much better she is now. In a few years she’ll make exactly the same video about how unwell she was in 2021, but how she’s honestly really better now guys!

The fact that after so many years she still hasn’t broken this repetitive cycle of needing validation that she’s “recovered” is theeee loudest alarm bell I’ve ever heard.

Thanks, will not watch. Saw the thumbnail and came straight here. She has not gained any weight visibly and I think this is massively dangerous video for her to put out, knowing mostly teens watch her videos. I'm still not convinced she will manage the marathon with her current mindset.

I’m not going to watch the video because genuinely, I don’t care what Holly does to herself. She’s an adult, if she wants to live a certain way then she’s free to do so.

But I do wish she’d get off the internet. What irritates me is that this sounds like yet another example of Holly making yet another video where she basically admits that all of her previous videos where she talks about her health and so on were a complete pack of lies and self-delusion. It annoys me a lot that at no point does she go back and either delete those videos or even add in a disclaimer that she’s now realised she wasn’t being honest and her lifestyle as portrayed in those videos isn’t something that people should emulate. She knows what her demographic is and she knows what harm she’s doing, but she can’t seem to stop herself. She really is very unwell and it’s horrific that nothing can really be done about the kind of videos she posts - she needs to realise that YouTube is NOT therapy and she should be working through her issues privately and with appropriate support.
