Great British Bake Off #3 2022

I'm seeing more discontent with Bake Off across the board. This a snippet from The Guardian.

Yes they've created an issue when everyone struggles with every challenge. Either they picked bad bakers, or the challenges are just too hard. I think it's the latter! It has lost a lot of charm and the baker's personalities haven't been able to come out as much because they're just so stressed and pressed for time- ruins the show!

Its been getting worse over the last few years with the challenges getting more and more difficult and they’ve been getting harsher in time limits too. They think it’s good tv to watch them all struggle when in reality it’s just not. The charm of bake off, for me, used to be watching a group of people make really good looking things that you actually wanted to eat and felt you could have a go at too. There hasn’t been one thing this year that I have really wanted to eat, let alone try and make!
Last weeks pie challenge for example. They had to make 8 pies. A few years ago it would have been 3 pies and that’s why there would be lots of extra detail on them and they would look fantastic, because they had the time to do it. All the silly structural elements to the showstopper are just setting them up for failure.
Prue is fine, if a little bland. Noel and Matt don’t work together and Paul is just really overdoing the harsh judge thing but then he always has.
It has been getting steadily worse for years now but this year really has been dull with no stand out bakes at all.

I’ve seen a horrible rumour that Stacey Solomon is making the move from Bake Off The Professionals to GBBO 😭
Ah I kinda liked her on it. She was warm and fuzzy, if a bit annoying. I feel that Stacey would give you support, encouragement and a hug.
The two lads now at this stage really come across like they don't want to be there and you can see this in the overall atmosphere in the tent with the bakers.

IMO the show needs a bit of a shake up for next year. New presenters and back to "normal" bakes.

I've always said that if they just give them a little bit longer in the challenges and the show stoppers, we would have a chance to see what they are really capable of! They do it on all these "Great British" shows where you end up seeing really mediocre work because of the pressure of the time restraints. I know that filiming has it;s time limits but give them a chance to let things cool down at least to get the decorations on! lol

The comedic interludes could work really well if only they had a pair or even one comedian that really had a spontaneous quick wit and didn't rely on props or pre-rehearsed material.
They need to get rid of Noel and for me Matt never really had it!

Echo what a lot of people have been saying about this series. It’s so far away from what attracted such a huge audience to watch it in the first place. No one tunes in for their comedy skits, Paul auditioning for a role as the Panto baddie (such a slimeball 🤢) or to watch contestants fail after being given a nigh on impossible task. I’m sure it was Jurgen who said that what they were being asked to do during German week ( stacking a cake or something?) you just wouldn’t do.
Started binge watching an Aussie series over the weekend and it was so much more enjoyable. Amateur in the very best sense of the word. And you actually got to see them baking!

This is what annoys me the most! Like with the custard week - you just wouldn't make a gateau that has custard at the forefront like that. And then expect them to have have to use a ton of gelatine to make it sturdy enough to stand by itself. Kevin's gateau on that week looked great, but it had no chance really. I'd like to see things that a really talented home baker would have in their repertoire that would maybe be slightly beyond a basic fairy cake and scone mum baker like me, but not impossible if you really wanted to have a go.

I used to love Matt Lucas but he is awkward! Noel is warmer but he has no chemistry with Matt.

The challenges are too difficult with too little time. And a bit random. And not very British!

There is an over focus on certain contestants too whilst others get less screen time.

I can live with Paul and Pru, tho Paul has been stingy with handshakes so far this season.

I would replace Matt tho not with Stacey ugh! And reformat the challenges.

I agree with almost everything you said! The only thing I disagree with is I like that Paul doesn't give out many handshakes. I remember one series recently where he gave the handshake out so much that they weren't "special" anymore so I'm glad he's toned it down a bit

i just wanna watch things that are realistic that someone in their home kitchen can make with their kids, and then show stoppers as bouns.

like someone above said, recreating shop brought faves was amazing, and id do anything for this show to return to this kinda content, something mega needs to happen before it kills off the show completely.
