Great British Bake Off #3 2022

Echo what a lot of people have been saying about this series. It’s so far away from what attracted such a huge audience to watch it in the first place. No one tunes in for their comedy skits, Paul auditioning for a role as the Panto baddie (such a slimeball 🤢) or to watch contestants fail after being given a nigh on impossible task. I’m sure it was Jurgen who said that what they were being asked to do during German week ( stacking a cake or something?) you just wouldn’t do.
Started binge watching an Aussie series over the weekend and it was so much more enjoyable. Amateur in the very best sense of the word. And you actually got to see them baking!
Yes they demand things that are simply not done for a reason, then complain about it, like stacking the tres leche cake in Mexican week when it is a really moist 'wet' cake that can't be stacked unless it's too dry, and the custard thing. Why not just get them to do things properly? I agree that they have given then things to do that are too difficult or couldnt be done in the requisite time, then they turn out a mess. Again, we are not seeing peoples real skills, just people baking under extreme and unnecessary pressure.

I can’t abide his handshakes. He thinks he’s God as he extends his hand. 🤮
Oh God I hate the handshakes! They were always about Paul and his ego, and everyone just made them into a massive big deal, especially on Extra Slice, just to inflate his big head even further and make it a 'thing'. He went overboard the first few episodes and has now stopped. I reckon he was told to knock them on the head, had a sulk and decided to go mad on the handshakes for a bit before complying.

The technical challenges suck these days. My favourite ever was the fondant fancy one. Everyone knows what they look like and have probably eaten them, but they were surprisingly tricky to do well.
It’s the everyday items that are the most difficult to perfect sometimes. Even a really rich fruit cake presents so many challenges. I used to enter the baking classes at agricultural shows with the WRI, and on a few occasions had to go round with the judges. There were some real disasters, all the fruit sinking to the bottom, cracks on the surface, raw in the middle, sunk on the top. I learned then that if the eggs had curdled in the mix, it left little dots on the crust. So the judge could tell just by looking at the cake what had gone wrong. But a simple class like that, really showed the skill in the winning cake. Why can’t they go back to basics, but add some pizzazz to make it entertaining.

Feel like theyv really picked on sandro tonight last week too as he was first in technical but nearly went home ?! Agree the challenges are way too hard they had no idea what the technical even was, and agree so much cooking this year which didn't play to the strength of bakers..

When you look at their Instagram the stuff they make at home is so amazing compared to what is produced on the show

there’s a lot of favouritism with her 😕 she’s definitely gotten star baker before when it should have been Sandro
I agree. She has got Star Baker when she didn't really deserve it
