Great British Bake Off 2023

How is it any different to previous years though? I’d now way be able to do what they did in 4 hours. Maybe 4 hours working time but would probably go off and do something for a few hours while the cakes were cooling. This years final just seemed a bit mehh and not OMG wow how the duck did they do that in such a short space of time.
It's not any different to previous years. I'm talking about Bake Off timings as a whole in general, not just this series

I don’t understand how they get so many people to keep it a secret when it’s filmed so far in advance! Fair enough the bakers and their immediate family, but there was SO many people at the final, including young kids, I just can’t believe it’s never leaked!
That's why I assumed the likes of the quarter, semi and final were filmed while the series was being broadcast. A bit anti climatic keeping that a secret for months.

Exactly! But I guess it's an entertainment show so there has to be an element of jeopardy otherwise it would be boring.

I'd love to see what the self proclaimed baking demigod Paul Hollywood could produce in the same conditions. He might be amazing and make me eat my words.. but I doubt it 😆

Now there’s a show I’d love to see. Prue and Hollywood actually having to do all 3 rounds in the same time they set the contestants, and then their bakes are judged blind alongside the rest of the contestants. In theory they should get first and second place. Common Channel 4, commission it please!

I was hoping Josh would win because it seemed so important for him, whereas I expect Matty was ecstatic to reach the final. But he was a lovely contestant, and I am thrilled for him. I liked Dan initially, but he came out with some remarks that made him sound as if he thought he was the one to beat. Like saying Josh had been chasing his coat tails. Or that Josh was just a nose ahead of him. Erm, I don’t think so Dan.

I didnt get the hatred of Dan until the final. Some of his comments weren't nice. He never stood a chance of winning and shouldnt have been in thr final. All 3 of his bakes last night were awful.

I must say, I hate how you can see the layers of cake beneath the artistic design. If I’d paid for this cake I’d be confused as to why the baker didn’t put a thicker white icing layer if they were going to bother making a design on top.
I said the same thing. I quite liked the colour combination, reminds me of fruit salad sweets. The cake needed a completely opaque icing underneath the orange and pink. I don’t like the gold leaf or the piping between layers. That kind of abstract design looks best minimal.

Reminds me of the year that Prue first started and she let it slip too early. I'm always surprised nobody else has ever done that:LOL:
I remember that! They did a phone in with her as she was away filming and asked how she felt and she replied with ‘I wanted to commit suicide’ which is a bit extreme, Prue.

Just finished watching it. I feel like they base the winning on the showstopper because Marty’s technical wasn’t even baked. I don’t get how Paul can have a go at Josh for his decoration being messy and what have you when he was praising Marty’s which looked like it was done in the dark. His pipe work was messy too.
Dan seemed to loosen up when he realised he wasn’t going to win, almost like the pressure was off him.
There hasn’t been anyone that has stood out to me this year. Even if they didn’t have the personality for TV their bakes were incredible. But this year feels very bland.
I think the best thing would be to rest it for a couple of years but I doubt Paul would allow that to happen.

Here’s a list of the 20 best baked from GBBO to really compare the difference in the standard of the last few years!

The showstoppers in the final last night don’t even come close to most of these!

I liked Mattys cake and so glad he won. Naked cakes aren't exactly new, not a fan personally but to each their own. First final in a while where it seemed pretty neck and neck. They've all done good and bad all series.

And nothing can be as bad as series 4 winner Francis Quinns final wedding cake that was uneven

I hate the deliberate time constraints but especially in the final. I’d much rather they gave the bakers enough time to produce something amazing rather than trying to force drama.

Pleased Matty won and Dan is still the smuggest of twats but I was so confused during the where are they now bit at the end. Who the duck is Keith? I swear I’ve never seen him before in my life 😂

Well I missed the final as I was away overnight.
I accidentally saw who’d won it when browsing for news this morning and I can’t really be bothered to watch it now.
Good luck to Matty, I didn’t mind who won.
I still can’t decide whether I’m just a bit bored with the programme itself, or if the bakers this year were just a bit average.

So I felt so sorry for Josh on that verging on boring comment from Paul, you could see he was completely crushed by it and the rest of tent’s reaction was shocked.
completely unnecessary by Paul and probably ruined bake off for him.

i feel that Paul is so obviously biased towards people he likes now, on bbc he was at least a little subtle now it’s becoming so obvious, starting to ruin the programme, you can pick from the first week who he likes/hates.

I like Marty’s cake he had the nicest flavour and if judged just on the showstopper well deserved.
never like Dan, too smug all the way through. Josh was quiet but good but deserved to win as he won two out of three and I think saying his decoration was not to standard was harsh when they praised Dan’s guitar for being beautiful when it was a smeared mess.
