It’s the nature of the beast though - yes, they’re normal people baking, but they’re also choosing to do that on a national tv programme, where, yes, people will comment on their personalities and appearances.

If anything truly offensive about any of the contestants was posted it would be removed.

this is a baking show a nice peaceful baking show where normal people try the best they can to win a cake stand

maybe actually discuss what happens in the show rather than their appearence and personalities

edit: discussing the contestants is fine "i think ... will win this week" or ".... cake looked tit" but there isn't any reason whatsoever to say things like "He looks like he's been smacked in the face with a sandwich tin" or " I STILL hate Lizzie. More and more with every passing week actually. She's just incredibly irritating. "Look at me, I'm so quirky" No love, you're really not"

i think you need to seriously consider what has led you to this point in ur sad little lives
Surely its pretty normal to have a favourite or favourites and unless you know them personally all you can judge on is what you see on the tv. From the edit so far I preferred Maggie she came across as someone fun but peaceful who I could get on with, Lizzie less so.

Loads of chat about the comp and the baking goes on throughout the episodes, in the fallow time, other chat happens. The shows are put together with personality and appearance in mind as well as baking skills so I don’t think folk need to feel too bad about have a chin wag outside the baking remit.

Wasn’t mad about the German/ nation shaming of Jurgen 😉 earlier, but to each their own.

And yet here you are, having commented on the hairline of a newborn baby on another thread?🥴 It’s honestly not that deep..

I really love George. There was some great camera work last ep, close close shot of his baldy, tidy bouncer-looking self looking as though he’s weighing up the chances of an impending pub brawl going off > cut to the pastel pretty hues of the judging table and the be -silvered haired judges analysing his delicate, multi layered European fancy cake.

I watch Bake Off in awe at how well they all cope with the pressure of being timed and judged.
I don't fancy Chigs either and of course posters will discuss the contestants as well as the baking. This thread is called bake OFF not bakING.

Noel needs to do a few introductions to the show as the moon face from Mighty boosh, though.

I thought all of the comments about Jurgen throughout the episode were really unnecessary. Jurgen seems like a really nice, kind person (even Giuseppe said that he was helping them with pronunciations) and I felt like the comments made about him such as not being able to go back to Germany if he didn't win this week didn't really land because Jurgen didn't really play along. Which I understand - either you sound pompous or you're putting yourself down for no reason other than the opportunity being there.

I'm also noticing that Matt is v disliked by some of the bakers. The shots of bakers after he cracks a joke are not actually of them laughing other than awkward laughs or giving side glances. Especially when he approaches them one-on-one.

Put me in the George needs to leave tent, I really don't see the appeal. They had the balls to stay Freya's cake was messy while George's was completely lopsided and raw.

Because of covid and bubbles and things they are probably spending even more time together than normal years. First mention of a practice tent. I think the contestants are all bonding and like each other.

There must have been a practice tent last year as well. 'normally' the bakers practice at home.

Genuinely just gone back through the thread. Where are the 'wet knickers' comments 🤣🤣 Honestly what nonsense. Didn't realise we weren't supposed to comment on the contestants on a TV show 🙄

To be honest I’m surprised in this day and age they would dare have an intro like that, not to mention the fact it was embarrassing as duck. I miss the good old days when Bake Off wasn’t a comfy family show and not just a piss take 😭🤣 I don’t want bad comedy, I want grannies making Victoria Sponge is that so much to ask 🤣🤣🤣
I thought the homage to Kraftwerk was quite good.

Me too. No sure why it wouldn’t be allowed in this day and age either? It’s by no means cultural appropriation.

I didn’t actually say it was appropriation - your words not mine. I just think anything stereotypical like that in a society with a cancel culture like ours is a weird flex for a family baking show.
