Escape into the tea & sympathy chat room #3

Thank you Chita for the kind words.

Mum's bed is where one of her lounges were. It's one of a set of two that Mum got made here in Oz so too heavy for just the two of us to move. Hopefully my brother is coming over one day soon so we can put it back.

I actually want to replace Mum's utensils. There the plastic handle, metal middle and plastic cooking part. I should of done it when Mum was still with us along with the Teflon frying pan.
There are melted utensil handles and damaged frying spatula.

Poor kitty is not too keen on cuddles with us as we have to wrestle her to give her one and a half steroid tablet morning and night and a chemo tablet every second morning.
Poor wee thing gets stressed out and has this very deep growl.
You may have already tried this, but we had great success using pate or cream cheese to hide a cat tablet. It's very sad that she is starting to dread a cuddle.

@TheMiceInTheShed I might give those a try.
You are dealing with so much. I wish I could give you a big hug xx
Don't feel you need to sort everything out ...one step at a time.
I think you need to ensure you get enough sleep as a priority. It's so important. Can you get some sleeping pills to try and get back into a rhythm?

When my mum died my sister and I found money hidden in various places. There was enough for us and our husbands to go for a pub meal which was welcome after spending time sorting through everything.

I had four cats (Maine Coons) over the years and it's so hard to give medication. Cheese usually worked...cheddar can be moulded around pills. Good luck with Tammy.

@Miscanthus I do need to see the doctor so will be able to ask them about sleeping pills. Although it usually takes weeks to see anyone at the moment.
Like most carers you concentrate on the person that is ill and don't keep up with your regular health checks.

I will add the cheddar cheese to my list of possible pill disguises for Tammy.

When I did a google search for disguises something called pill pockets came up. It's a soft treat with a hole at one end and you can mould it around the pill but not sure if Tammy would eat them and I haven't seen them in shops.

I appreciate your kind words. xx

Finally got Mum's death certificate today. They have put Mum passed from cancer yet when she left hospital after the fiasco with the second SPC catheter change that there was no sign of the cancer.

There was no champagne moment the doctor said Mum had gone into remission but there was no treatment for the intestinal/bladder fistula.
Mum had been diagnosed with 2 fistulas after a CT scan when fecal matter came out of the SPC catheter after the second change.
There was one between her skin to the intestines where the SPC entered and one between an upper loop of the small intestine to the bladder.

The SPC was replaced with a normal urethra catheter on the day of the disaster and the fistula between the skin and intestine closed with 1 week.

But the intestine to bladder fistula beat Mum as it was near the top and urine going into the intestines not much nutrients were absorbed.

I don't know if the doctor is right.

I know you want answers but really, your mum had so many things to deal with and it was a culmination of all of them that caused her to slip away and go beyond the veil.
Try not to focus on a single cause because you will get no rest.
And now, you do need to get some rest.

You did everything you could.
You did more than most people would.

Your mum is at peace now.
All her horrible pain gone.
Try to focus on that and imagine her sleeping peacefully and pain free.
Go to a time when she held you in her arms and rocked you to sleep.
Feel that love and let it calm your mind.

It's not easy but you can do it.

Allow yourself to take a breather.
Xxx

Chita that is great advice, and I will get there.

I think it's more to do with the radiation oncologist saying one thing to Mum and Stepdad, and then saying something different about the cancer outcome to the surgeon that looked at the fistula possibly being operated on.
It appears all the cancer treatment doctors and palliative doctors didn't think Mum would beat it, but she did.

I am getting more sleep and Tammy sometimes lays on my bed.

A couple of weeks before Mum passed my tea mug (Mum bought it for me ages ago) and her soup cup somehow got knocked together and they both got chipped on the rim.

The pieces were just tiny and not able to be glued back.

I am still using my tea mug but I have noticed that the chip has gotten bigger, probably the effect of washing it.

Is there anything non toxic I can use to fill it in or just repair and not use.
I haven't seen anything yet.

There is something called Porcelain glue but I think that is to glue broken bits together, and I assume you don't have the bit that chipped off.
So you need to fill the hole.
Loctite make a gel superglue. You might be able to fill the chip with that and then smooth it gently with an emery board.

My glue of choice is always Araldite - it is an epoxy resin and comes in two tubes that you mix together before you apply.
when mixed it is quite stiff so it might fill the hole, then when it dries you should be able to gently sand it down with an emery board or a fine sandpaper.

I get a bit of tinfoil [the little tin thing a tealight come in is perfect] - I quirt a bit of each tube onto the foil and mix together with the end of a matchstick. I use the matchstick to apply the glue. It also comes with a little spatula, so that might help you apply it smoothly.

Obvs just hand rinse the mug in future and avoid the dishwasher.

Also I bet theres some youtube videos giving advice on how to do it.
---
Further thoughts............

google your local area, is there someone who makes mugs - actually makes them, not buys blank white ones then adds a picture - an actual ceramics artist???? Maybe they have repair skills????

Alternatively, here is an attempt at copying the image on the broken mug.
You can have it put onto a new blank mug. I know its not THE mug your mum gave you, but maybe having a similar picture on a new mug will still give comfort???

I won't be offended if this suggestion is a big no-no, but here it is anyway....

Wow @Chita thanks for all the suggestions.

The cat looks great.

Sadly we don't have any crafty people near here. I think most people just buy the blank cups or mugs and get photos etc put on them.

That's why I like the UK programmes as there are still some "cottage industries" going. Oz has practically completely sold out to China.
We have a non existent car manufacturing industry.

I got a shock the other night when I stumbled across a programme about Hornby still going and making new model trains and even a Spitfire plane.
I think it said they owned Corgi as well.

Check out The Repair Shop tv show. Its prob on Yoo Toob. They take on repair jobs that look hopeless but they work wonders. Might be some tips on how to fill a chip in a mug on there.

I forgot you arent in the UK.
Im sure you will be able to get a gel superglue or some Araldite in Aus though.

Good luck.

What a lovely mug! And such fine china is a pleasure to drink from, too.

Sorry - I can't her re: repairs, but perhaps use it occasionally for small bunches of flowers in remembrance of your mam? Violets, pansies etc.

My much treasured, 17½ year old dog had to be unexpectedly put to sleep on Wednesday, and today has been the hardest day so far.
I love him so much, he was my little Prince.
Our other dog, who is 4 years old, is obviously feeling sad, too. Her ears aren't as perky as usual, and she has not been as bouncy as usual.

He was a Chihuahua/Yorkshire Terrier Crossbreed, and the most chilled out, gentle dog you could ever meet.

I'm really missing him.

I'm so sorry. It is never easy losing a beloved animal companion. I'll hold you and your other dog in my prayers. Try to draw comfort from each other.

So sorry for your loss.

Thanks @TheMiceInTheShed that would look nice with a posy in it.

Kintsugi is a beautiful way of repairing fine China or pottery, using gold in the seams.

@Padparadascha I have never heard of that.

@TokenBlinkie that is so sad.

Condolences for your sad loss.

I’m so so sorry to hear that. Your heart must be breaking xxx

@Dooley Doo
I've asked my friend who watches Repair shop about the mug.
Apparently you need to gently sand the chip then use modelling clay to fill the gap, wait for it to set - prob overnight - sand it gently with very fine sandpaper then paint over it and glaze it.
