Refugees flee due to war, persecution, or violence, which are legally distinct from economic migration.
Countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey have taken in refugees—Turkey alone hosts approximately 3.4 million Syrians, while Lebanon and Jordan host over 800,000 and 760,000
The countries lack the resources to provide long-term security, employment opportunities, and legal protections for refugees. So while some Middle Eastern countries are considered safe, they may not meet the international standards of being able to provide long-term security.
The UK has played a significant role in exacerbating unrest in the Middle East. The UK conducted more than 1,700 airstrikes in Iraq and Syria. We disrupted their local economies, trade routes and created power vacuums.
The UK's financial expenditure on the Iraq War amounted to approximately £8.4 billion, not even including the post care provision for veterans. When combined with spending on the war in Afghanistan, the figure is set to approximately £20.3 billion. That could have been invested in building UK housing stock , paying nurse salaries, improving infrastructure.
To fix this we need to get rid of the snakes who have accepted donations pushing for the escalation of wars. Address the root causes, tighten border controls, reform Immigration laws. Invest in skills training and education to reduce dependency in agriculture and healthcare . Impose stricter requirements for family reunifications and make it easier to deport criminals. Given the UK’s track record, there is skepticism about whether these changes can even be implemented effectively.
