Bit controversial but i think the square is crying out for traditional family unit that we could get to know and care about and relate to.
The idea of a women and man fancying each other, dating then getting married and having 2/3 children is still very much alive and well in the real world but it's not represented at all really on the show.
I think a non divorced couple with their own biological kids coping with day to day family life would be just as appreciated by viewers as there are still lots out there and so much scope for storylines .
That's why I've never forgiven EE for what they did to Mick and Linda. They weren't perfect but they were the only example of a "normal" family unit where the family tree/connections didn't change every year.... once we got past the "my sister is actually my mum" stuff of course...
