Linda has always been a bullying witch, Mick made her seem decent, but she never was. She was nasty towards her own kids choices, selfish and impulsive, with a terrible hairstyle to boot. They should have got rid of her when DD decided to leave. I wouldn't have minded a happy ending for the Carters, could have seen them moving to the coasts of Spain, running an English pub for all the ex-pats and tourists.
