Ru, Michelle and a production crew are in New Zealand right now filming for Drag Race Down Under. They've all been 2 weeks in managed isolation. Clearly willing to put up with it again to keep the filming going and it's not easy to get those hotel slots so must have been organised long ago when it was looking dicey in Aussie. Rumoured to be 2 Kiwi Queens and the rest Aussies. Ru is obviously keen to keep the shows pumping out. I do think screening the US and UK shows simultaneously has diluted the fun and split the fans. It's really hard watching bith and keeping up. I love the UK version best.

I was kind of hoping that the Aussie version would be Ru-less. I didn't watch the Canadian version but I've only heard good reviews and it didn't sound like Ru was missed at all!

Actually, the judging on Canada's Drag Race was pretty crap. Brook Lynn Hytes didn't win and seemed a bit reticent to call the queens out. Jeffrey Bowyer Chapman was mortifying. He tried to be Ru but it was seriously painful. I've always liked Stacey McKenzie and she was okay. When it comes to the guest judges, unless you know Canadian popular culture, you wouldn't have heard of any of them (I had to look them all up). The winner was good but Rita Baga should have won (just on challenge wins and feedback).

I wonder if Courtney Act will have any part of Aussie Drag Race. She was basically the Australian Ru Paul so it would be odd if she didn't appear at all. Actually, reading the articles below, maybe she won't be on it.

Okay so I just spent this morning catching up on the last 3 episodes. I can’t believe I’ve been sleeping on uk drag race just to keep my head in the US one, Uk is so much better!

I was really disappointed in how Ginny handled herself and felt quite sorry for Sister Sister alone up there giving it her all with someone who kind of steals the scene a bit by giving up.
I bloody love Lawrence. Biggest shock for me was how much Bimini has grown on me- in the first episode I didn’t think she’d get far but she’s really stepped up- the prodigy vibes were everything. Tia kofe really makes me laugh but I think unless she really steps up she might go home soon- I’d love to see her go full Naomi smalls and be the body queen she could be.

For the whole of the bananadramas performance Ru had a face like stone and I didn’t feel like it was just joe he was losses with. I didn’t think they were that bad and I’m not sure if it’s a lost in translation thing or if Ru had a clear image of how he wanted it to look in his mind so he’s flipped out. I think he wanted two stand-out performances to milk the song as much as possible.

Just watching the episode of Project Runway where Ru is a judge. It's so much worse than the article I posted above when you actually watch it. Just shows, she obviously didn't have a team of 50 people working on her in 2008.

The contestants have to make costumes for drag queens and Acid Betty is one of the queens. Absolutely no change between 2008 and when she appeared on her season. Same massive mohawk and same clothes!

That's interesting to hear another perspective! I've followed Kyne on tiktok since before they were a contestant and was going to watch for them but then I heard they were eliminated pretty early on so I didn't bother. I'm thinking Aussie humour might be closest to British so maybe I'll watch it when its on. Its a shame Courtney won't be involved though, I love her!

I'm seeing Sister Sister getting trashed on her Insta posts of the chip bag look.

Regardless of what happened (copying or coincide) or your opinion on her, it's not OK to openly attack someone who is just competing on a TV show. Made me feel quite uncomfortable to see all the hate.

The Drag Race fandom can be SO toxic, it’s really disturbing.

Kyne was terrible. Seriously thought she was better than everybody else and couldn't take any criticism at all. She lasted until episode 2. The other queens did say though that if it wasn't for Kyne, they would have had no idea how to put make up on, because her tutorials were amazing.

I like Kyne too! Canada's series is worth a watch but it was a little ropey - Brooke Lynn wasn't an amazing host, but I think she was still finding her feet. If anything it's another TV show to pass the time, haha.

I enjoyed Canada's Drag Race, Lemon and Jimbo were my favourites. I loved Stacey as a judge and mentor, but Jeffrey was so cringe, I could barely watch him judging!

The current US Drag Race is alright but there has been way too much focus on Kandy for my liking, the other girls barely get a look-in unless they're fighting with her.

Drag Race UK is the best though. I'm enjoying all the girls, well maybe not Sister Sister haha. Tayce and Bimini are my favourites, with A'Whora growing on me like a rash.

Is there history between Ru and PO'G? Does anyone have tea? We've been wondering why Paul/Lily hasn't been a guest judge. Would LOVE to see LSDR!!!

Also TIA TO WIN

this is the article about why he doesn’t like Drag Race, although I think the US and UK versions are quite different in terms of contestants and aesthetics. I love they’re not all about make up and Instagram in the UK one!

Did anyone watch the Netherlands version? Saw the first few episodes, but lost interest pretty quickly.
Yeah I watched it. It was ok but the challenges were kinda crap and the production was a bit half-arsed. It felt like the winner was decided from the beginning - there's no clear winner for this UK season which is why I'm enjoying it so much. My favourite from the Netherlands season is ChelseaBoy, I really like their style.

Oh I didn't know he spoke about it! I can understand why it's not his thing but I'd love to see him on the show, he'd genuinely understand the UK humour.

Thank you that's really interesting! I do agree with him, I'm not interested in the look queens, give me a comedy queen every time.

A lot of drag queens are outspoken against the show and it's difficult not to agree with them. I think the US series has had its day tbh. Easy agree on the point POG makes about it not really being about drag. Most of the winners haven't even had a truly distinctive look or act. Maybe with the exception of Yvie Oddly? Although I do think Bianca Del Rio is probably the best all rounder the series has ever had.

Aaaaanyway. If you can get your hands on Tom Glitter's book they talk a bit about why they feel Drag Race is limiting for drag and gives a false view of what it's actually and who should participate in it (skinny look queens). I think this is why Lawrence Chaney, as an outsized queen, is being pushed so much but then Rupaul starts going on at Ginny Lemon for not padding out and at Joe Black for daring to wear high street 🙄 I still love the UK version, all the same.
