Discontent #14 food, energy, transport, cost of living, society etc

Can anyone better at these things see how much they paid for this mansion 25 years ago? The comments are all calling it theft that 40% inheritance tax is due.

If it was shares I believe they'd be taxed 24%. The 40% level does sound too high. But there's a vast about of unearned income from asset appreciation there. They've been trying to sell it for years and decreased the price by a million.

Odd it didn't come up for me. I was looking at the right house.

Edit: I never thought to check Zoopla, as I don't like their layout. My default searches are always on RM. :ROFLMAO:

This was being spoken about on LBC this morning, hope I’m recalling it correctly as I can’t find a source for it but apparently Rachel Reeves responded saying there’s no signs of a recession?! 😳😂

Also can’t help but wonder how severely this weekend’s storms will impact retail performance! We were meant to go out to a market & inevitably would have picked up a few bits from the shops but have cancelled. Is anyone still going out this weekend?

Everything is cancelled here. We're staying in, it's quite windy and lots of trees coming down

I was going to meet a friend for lunch after work, but changed the date as its so wet and windy. I work in a supermarket though and it's been busy consistently since 9am. No storm is going to prevent this lot from getting their 24 cans of stella for a tenner lol

Does anyone have any recommendations for a heated throw? My cat has her second UTI and the only thing I've changed is letting the dog upstairs as I want to sit in my bed where it's warmer before upstairs I only allowed the cats so going to go back to doing that again

No recommendations for a throw but have you tried cystophan for your cat? My wee boy cat had crystals leading to a UTI, and the vet recommended cystophan. I get a tub of 240 from Amazon and he gets 3 a week, he's never had a UTI since.

Silent night do good heated blankets for about £25, our cat loves it and we have them on every bed in the winter! Heated over throws are a lot more expensive, the only decent one we found is the dream land one which was a gift, but I think they're like £70-100

If it was PAYE income it’d have an effective tax rate of 47%* tho so I have no sympathy lol.

*just using a bog standard online calculator so concede to any payroll experts here on this!!
I didn't realize income tax was so high!

I take it back, I have no issues with Kirsty paying 40% tax on that as most of it is unearned income that has never been taxed.

Highly recommend Dreamland ones. I bought mine for £50 in 2019 and it's not let me down! Gets nice and toasty plus washes well.

Hard to feel sympathy for massive wealth being passed down having to pay tax, it's a way of redistributing it to make it fair. I feel a lot more for those whose homes have to be sold to pay for care, but again can see how it's necessary as it needs to be funded somehow and the tax burden on those of working age is already so high.

It was probably actually not a UTI this time just stress cystitis but I was recommended to look into supplements so was just looking at this thank you

Thank you I have the under ones, that's why I've been letting the dog upstairs so I can sit in bed with the heated blanket but want one for the sofa if the cats getting stressed with the dog being upstairs. Try not to turn the heating on so want something I can keep warm with

I can't recommend them highly enough. My wee boy is a rescue cat and so nervous and timid of anything new. He gets stressed so easily. He's been in the small animal hospital for 3 nights before with it. Since I've been giving him cystophan he's had no issues 🙏🏼

"The figures highlighted an uncomfortable truism about modern life in Britain: wealth brings health and poverty kills, in what the ONS called a “clear” north-south divide."
