I don't think the type of CIC he has gone for "Private company limited by guarantee without share capital" allows for dividends. There is no mention of dividends in the articles of association.

The grift seems to come from overblown "administrative expenses".
My theory about him and St Carly is that when you find suddenly yourself in charge of more cash than you’ve ever had before in your life, even if your intentions were noble at the start, it’s very difficult to accept that you won’t be financially rewarded handsomely for all your hard work. So you hoard, trying to figure out a way in which you can significantly improve your life while also carrying on being seen as a people’s hero.

As we can see, it’s not a long term strategy

I honestly think he had good intentions initially but his organisation and attitude are awful. I don’t think he’s necessarily started the whole thing to grift but he’s seen huge amounts of money coming in and he seems to think he can just spend donations on what he wants (like paying for people’s shopping). I wouldn’t be surprise if he had a skimmed off stash somewhere, but I do think all the accounting stuff is just mega disorganised. And instead of going “right this has got far too big for me, I’m going to do some good still but it’s time I just direct people to a proper charity. He’s ended up with a God complex and loves the attention. This is why I just give to registered charities. Granted, I know even they can be a bit shady with where your money is actually going but setting up a CIC is too much hard work when there is already existing charities out there.

Oh my god this was the gist of my post as well.

Both of their CICs have no named asset lock, which I think is very telling. They can't name a charity they'd want to see have their cash in the event their companies close with assets remaining.

The problem is also he's got away with it for so long. I know a few people on twitter have been on the ball for ages - but on the whole he's just carried on unquestioned as 'Britins Kindest Plumber' ™ propped up by people like Hugh Grant.
So he has just (imo) skimmed off large amounts of donations calling it 'wages'.
Luckily the net is tightening and he knows it - hence his incredibly erratic behaviour. He obviously thought the gravy train would never be derailed.

His behaviour is absolutely bizarre. Especially for someone running a charity.

I think he got really lucky with his initial “donation” to the elderly lady with leukaemia (yes a nice thing to do but nothing I can’t see the majority of plumbers having done in that situation tbh) and he saw the £££ when that was followed by people asking how to donate to him. It all spiralled from there.

It’s not a charity although he likes to think it is

He’s trying to do that now with the electric wheelchair purchase. He’s just posted another unhinged video on Facebook talking about it FFS

I don't get why he doesn't just pay himself a salary. Burnley heating engineers must be on 50k minimum. That reduces the pot, less tax. Then if he decides to donate back no questions are asked. The donations are still paying for the materials which is the major cost, not some gas monkey

He likes being able to boast he is being paid nothing or a pittance, doesn't he? It is a classic grifter flex.

Quoting myself like an hole but by lucky I mean that she called him. She could easily have called any of the other independent plumbers in Burnley and they’d have been Britains Kindest Plumber.

He’s trying to dodge the obvious massive conflict of interest.
It’s all very murky. I suspect he has found the misery porn Twitter posts to be a great way to get donations but they have also attracted unwelcome attention to the lack of proper oversight (what he calls trolls)
I have a suspicion he is paying his wife and/or other family from donations to do spurious tasks like running the shop, ans the shop in its various incarnations seems like a vanity project.

From TwitteX- this is MENTAL. You only pay corporation tax on PROFITS - how on earth is CIC generating £500k in operating profit????? (Corp tax is around 20%). It just doesn't add up at all. Either rank incompetence with the accounting, or an appallingly run organisation that's sitting on a huge pile of cash. Just stop digging, man.

So they've had a PROFIT of over £390,000? After all the vehicles have been bought? After the admin expenses? After the materials?

I'm clearly in the wrong line of work.

I’m sure I see the story about the old lady on one of those viral pages the other day. Which is hilarious because although it isn’t declared it’s pretty obvious they do sponsored posts for people.

ETA: just grunked and seen someone shared it here, which is probably where I remember it from. There’s no way big social media accounts would have come across that story organically. He 100% paid for that.
