I'd just be happy with a pro-science thread
To be fair so would I, it's really frustrating trying to talk to people who have already made up their minds but don't have any proof to back it up, or any quality check when it comes to 'facts', and tbh I am just here trying to understand the arguments so I can be prepared for them when I have to see anti COVID vaxxers in real life, but perhaps a thread with lots of sources would be better

I made one.

It genuinely is my sincerest hope that anti vaxxers come here and take a second to actually think critically about the views they hold and why - but I fear based on that other shitshow of a thread, that's never going to happen 😞

Anyway, can we also talk social science here, the BEHAVIOUR of anti vaxxers is also wild, I work in behaviour study and the confirmation bias just pops out

I bet the thread mostly discusses us because you are all obsessed OR will be emotional stuff. So headlines about "healthy 20 year olds dying". There will be very little facts and data posted because the facts and data tell you what we are saying! Read the fine print!

Great. Hopefully it won't be invaded by people making false connections between vaccines and ANY / ALL illness and death. 🤞
Don't watch the news then, they've been doing it since March 2020!

So you're a COVID denier as well then, sure Jan

Yeah I think initially the vaccine threads were both sides, but one side thought they'd be better off alone where they didn't have to face the consequences of their actions 🤷‍♀️

I hope this thread will be one where we can talk about all things science/research/fact based. There was mention of mRNA technology being completely knew… if I’m not mistaken, isn’t mRNA something that has been studied for many years?

There have been covid vaccine related deaths, sadly, and I feel devastated by anyone affected by them. However to leap upon any illness or death reported in the media and connect it to the vaccines is actually wicked behaviour and shows a real obsession with twisting information to confirm your view, and not waiting for the facts.

Anyway. I'm keen to get my booster, but only five months post-vaccine two. Next month I hope!

Not at all but I am intelligent enough and well researched enough to know that IF a healthy 20 year old died of (not with) covid that they was extremely unlucky! It is a statistical anomaly. Just like a child being struck by lightening or being swept away on a bouncy castle. Or someone being hit by a falling tree. I will see it for what it was. Unlike you lot who think that because the media reports on it and uses it to push their agenda that it must be a regular occurrence and they must of course take the experimental vaccine to be safe. Thats the difference.

What do you really gain from these false accusations and sweeping assumptions?! It doesn’t add anything to the thread it just makes you look stupid.
Thats all they have been programmed to do
"Anti vaxxer", "covid denier", "refusenik"🧟‍♀️ the media needs to give them some new slogans.. fast!

I don’t see why not it cannot be spoken about here. I studied social sciences in my undergrad degree and psychology in my postgrad so it is definitely something that baffles me.

Yeah, pretty sure they've been studied for over a decade at this point - these are the kinds of things it would be good to have a 'master list' of sources about, you know the usual things that always come up in those 'debates'

Pretty much every anti vaxx argument can be easily dismantled with evidence. but they are a very peculiar breed and just want to stick rapidly to their misinformed views. It's as fascinating as it is disturbing.

It's the ones who think the entire virus is a hoax that truly baffle me

There have been and no one is saying otherwise. What people do get upset about is when the vaccine is attributed to a death being reported when we do not know the facts or if that person even got the vaccine.

Yeah the potential for mRNA to be used in therapeutics was discovered decades ago, although it's challenging because of its instability.

I read this a few weeks ago and found it an interesting read:
