That's why Vallance is a Sir and Whitty isn't. It's better to overeact at what might come your way then under prepare. Whatever type of lockdown they do in the future it won't stop me seeing friends and family. I won't be going back to an hour exercise a day and avoiding the people I care the most about even if they shut shops, hospitality and have WFH.

Whitty's hands-on thing was done entirely for the benefit of the papers and to build his celebrity. Don't be fooled by it.....I doubt the medical staff he was pictured with let him take any responsibility.

Israel will be vaccinating their people forever at this rate. Viruses will mutate to make the jabs made for them not as useful and so you will always need a new updated jab.

Not sure where else to write this but thought I'd try here to see if anyone has any advice...

I've just finished my 10 day isolation period after testing positive for Covid... I've been really poorly and still feeling a little ropey now in that my cough is lingering and still can't taste or smell anything. Test and Trace called me yesterday and as long as I don't have a temperature or an upset stomach (I don't) I don't need to isolate any longer. I've done a lateral flow test at home and was negative (but it was also negative the same day I had my positive PCR) BUT I've just discovered it can take a month to leave your system fully and that people are showing up as positive via PCR tests up to 90 days afterwards....

Problem I have is I'm due to go to Majorca on the 31st (booked when it was on the green list but we are both doubly vaccinated and can prove it so don't need a test to fly or to quarantine on return). We will however need an antigen/LFT test to fly home and still have to do a Day 2 PCR test when we arrive home. So now I'm terrified one of these will be positive when I have no active infection, just a leftover from my recent bout of Covid! I can't afford to get stuck out there... and not sure my mental health can stand another 10 days at home alone!

I thought about getting a PCR before I go but then if that's a false negative I'm 'legally obliged' to isolate again!

Any advice please???

There are two things that may help you.....

First, there are LFT providers in the UK who will sell you a test kit that you take with you for your return test. Choose one that just asks you to upload a picture of your completed LFT test for issue of the certificate. Then just upload a picture of the negative test.

Second, use the transit exemption. Book a flight out of the UK with 24 hours of your arrival from a different airport. Choose the cheapest flight you can find to anywhere and then print the ticket for evidence to border force on your arrival. If you happen to miss this flight there is unfortunately no way which you can re-enter yourself into the quarantine system at present but be sure to self-isolate.

She tested positive Friday morning but thinks she caught it at the weekend (7 days ago). Symptoms started on Weds/Thurs so took the test on Thursday.

I know it's just a waiting game but it's so stressful 😭

I'm just hoping that because it's been 5 days since I was with her that symptoms would likely have shown if I caught it. I'm gonna book a PCR to check tbh.
PCR swabs are only for those who are currently displaying symptoms , not those who want to use it as a precaution

Current NHS guidlines are that nobody with a positive test gets reswabbed for 90 days as they will show up a positive

I would do the LFT test while youre out there as youll get a negative from that

Use a rapid antigen to fly home, only a PCR will pick up residual virus from old infections.

You only need an antigen test to return home (did the same coming back from Ibiza a few weeks ago - no Covid there but managed to pick it up from one night in the pub! *face palm*) but I'm worried I'll be forced into quarantine again with the testing when I get home...plus the cost of testing now it's gone amber is going to cost more than the holiday! Bloody hell...

Someone mentioned above that its against NHS policy to pcr test someone who has had covid. I know some places accept a "letter of recovery" or something in place of a negative PCR but I don't know if this applies to returning from abroad.

Yes I'd thought that - they've told me not to have a PCR test within six months of recovery but not sure how I can avoid that if it's due to returning from abroad! In any case we're due to go away again twice within the next six months (both countries are currently amber) so I guess I'd better check it out - not sure who will be able to give me a definitive answer though...

My husbands nephew went to a drop in today for his 1st jab.
Queued over 2hrs to be told they didn't have enough doses left.

Sounds fair enough.... Except they were queue jumping all the people waiting for 2nd jabs
Can’t he just book online?

Guessing they prioritised older age groups?

Rates starting to fall in the NE (apologies hate the Fail) knowing my luck I will travelling to the next hotspot for my summer staycation 😂

Israeli ICU admissions

Jeez that's a big increase in one week. Not even sure schools shut for six weeks will give us the circuit break we need.

It hasn’t here unless there’s a big lag our cases are spiralling

In the vulnerable over 50s but only mild symptoms as he has been fully vaccinated two months.
