Indian variant is now a variant of concern. England have moved to the next phase of their road map. Think Wales are still locked down? Not sure about Scotland or Ireland, sorry! There's a big focus on getting people vaccinated.

Previous thread here:

My Hospital wont book anything after June because they have been told not to due to the likely surge of patients. Annoying as I wanted a slot booked, but worse to think of us being back to square one and I’m double vaxxed.

You might be able to call them coincidences if it wasn't for the fact that thousands of covid variants have been identified across the world of which 15 have been found in the UK. Also as far as I am aware neither the Brazilian or South african variant had any impact on UK plans. As I pointed out to someone yesterday, it's difficult to accuse the UK government of 'manufacturing' a panic over the Vietnam variant to frustrate plans for 21st June when its discovery was announced by the Vietnam authorities and hasn't been detected in this country.

As you say the vaccines have worked with the variants of concern to date but the jury is still out on how well it copes with the Indian variant. That is why there is uncertainty about 21st June. Also as you say the Indian variant seems to work better with both jabs which is why the fact that less than 50% of the adult population has had both jabs is a concern.

Johnson 'stuck to his guns' in September when the experts said we needed an immediate 'circuit breaker'. By the end of October the soaring rate of hospitalisations and deaths meant he couldn't 'stick to his guns' any longer and had to agree a deeper and longer lockdown than if he had acted in September. This time I hope Johnson listens to the experts and not the Daily Telegraph or idiots invading the Westfield shopping centre.

Nobody wants the 21st June to be delayed and certainly nobody wants restrictions to continue forever. But they need to continue for as long as necessary. I think that some people have become so invested in the concept of 'freedom day' that they have become complacent and reckless.

When would you be happy for all restrictions to be dropped? June 21st? When all adults have been offered a vaccine? When all adults who have had a vaccine have had their second? When kids have been jabbed? When the most vulnerable have had their autumn booster? When?

June 21st will be a sociological disaster either way. There are still three sides to this - those who have never felt any restrictions were necessary, those in the middle who just acquiesce and those who were/are willing to stay home, save lives, protect the NHS at any cost. June 21st isn't going to be some magical awakening and those groups of people are going to re-emerge in a November 2019 vision as one.

I do believe the tide has turned though, that people won't accept any further restrictions and that should they choose to carry on we will see real disobedience.

Martin McKee himself says there will be 'polarised views' about it and it's far from certain that the vaccine will be made available to UK children. Scaremongering to suggest it's a given.

Not scaremongering at all, they're already jabbing kids in the US / Israel where the UK looks to for data on how well the vaccines work in certain situations ,the EU has already passed it for use in kids why would the UK be any different 🤷‍♀️

I was willing and did stay home religiously in lockdown 1 and followed all rules. The longer its dragged on, and seeing the horrendous MH side effects of lockdown through work, are making me just want it over with and I'm in the all must end come June 21st. We need to live with it. Cannot live a life waiting for the government to lock us down every 5 minutes

I am gobsmacked that an hospital would be so unprofessional and be allowed to act this way over guess work which may or may not happen. That they wouldn't at least book people in they can cancel on. So if there is no surge they will have less work to do from no appointments. Nice and easy for them.

I'll be delighted if restrictions are dropped on 21st June. But not at any cost.

The government said a test would be applied to the decision to proceed with each stage:
  • The vaccine deployment programme continues successfully
  • Evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated
  • Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS
  • Assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new variants of concern

Which departments are not booking ?? Before I left , surgery was back up and running , outpatients are back to face to face

It’s already happening it’s only a matter of time before they implement it imo, there’s ministers that are already in favour of the idea .

The infections might go up some more in the next 15 days before Bojo makes his announcement. But I am sure hospital admissions and deaths will remain steady and hopefully that's enough for the PM to open the country back up. The idea of having to still wear a mask will continue to stop me spending money in the economy. I would rather save it up than spend it for the displeasure of having my face sweat in summer heat.

Oh I'm not gonna touch that 😂 consultants should decide on an individual basis, not the government that’s for sure!
I’m talking kids in general.

would anyone on here let their child be vaccinated?
Hell no and I will keep my kids off school the week the nurses are in to vaccinate the kids in case they try to overrule my no consent and bully my kids into consenting.

I’m 33. Had my first AZ dose and couldn’t move, I was so ill. Arm was swollen for 2 weeks. Just had my second (they tried to offer me moderna then noticed this was my 2nd so has to give me AZ.) I broke out in hives tonight and feel a bit off but nothing major like first dose.

I’ve obviously taken the vac but I’m hesitant about my kids. I get the infection rate in kids is soaring but I think I’d rather home school than play the lottery with their bodies? I’m not sure. Especially if they had to go through the side effects I went through with my firs5 dose, I couldn’t do that to them. I’m so wary. I think much more research needs to come out for me to get them done - and I’m not an antivaxxer at all, they’ve had all their other jabs. 🤔.
