Each to their own with opinions and views but why are people bringing over their thoughts and narrative from the CT thread or just generally views that the government want to divide us.

I will go back to what I said in the previous thread that it is becoming really overwhelming reading here and I am conscious of those who voice they are anxious/stressed. I don’t think this thread will help very much since it has taken a turn the past week. 🙁
Thinking that the government wants to divide us isn’t a conspiracy theory it’s recognised age old tactic used by many governments and rulers throughout history and is most definitely not unique to the current UK government.

I am in no way policing the thread but if you are finding it overwhelming then maybe don‘t read it? There are plenty of threads in here that are too much for me but I don’t go in them. It’s a forum, like social media, you can just pick the bits you enjoy or find helpful and stay away from the rest.

I actually think the opposite is true. This thread is not (and has never been) a pro-Government/pro-lockdown/pro-restrictions. It is a virus/pandemic commentary and not an echo chamber of agreement.

I can't remember the name of the poster but someone towards the end of the previous thread posted that she was getting a lot of pressure from her workplace to take the vaccine but she was unsure about it and was very anxious about the whole situation, she received responses from both sides of the fence and a lot of support/advice.

Just because someone doesn't agree with your stance or 'the' narrative doesn't make it a conspiracy, nor does it make you right and them wrong or vice versea. I think this thread is pretty tame and tolerant overall, but like anything (I don't go to the Hinch threads anymore because it hurts my brain!) no-one has to participate if it is making things difficult for them. I am sorry you feel that way, though.

I think it is safe to say many are not a fan of the government or the restrictions that have been/currently in place. The thread has changed in mood and there are many opposing opinions and ideas about the pandemic, the restrictions in place, what people should or should not be doing.

People feel strongly whatever they believe in and that is fine. I just feel that the supportive nature of the thread has been lost a little through all of what I have mentioned above.

Can I ask a genuine question, please?

It is currently unknown how long the vaccine will provide protection for, but we know it is at least six months.

So when countries reopen because a large portion of their population has been vaccinated, what is likely to happen if and when the vaccines stop providing protection:
- The virus is still there and there are different variants that can be transmitted easily so the infection rates will go up quickly
- The virus has been diminished due to less infections as people were vaccinated and infection rates only go up marginally

If the vaccine needs to be topped up every year, similar to the flu, could there be a cycle of annual "measures/restrictions", possibly in winter?

Not everyone will think the same and that doesn’t mean they like the government or voted for them.

I am not going to stop reading the thread as I have generally found it to be a supportive one BUT as of recent it feels a little overwhelming.

Does anyone really think Boris is competent enough to divide anything (bar maybe his scotch egg when he goes to the pub) 🥴

Maybe he can divide 2 by 2. 🥴

They’re getting their money’s worth out of the Blue room

I think that is reflective of society/the country as a whole now though. People have had enough, the change in mood (I posted on the previous thread about how people's stances had changed from one of compliance to questioning to sheer frustration at how we were expected to live) is everywhere, not just here. I think people are done with tiptoeing around a fear narrative that we are realising had no foundation. I still think this is mostly supportive despite our differences, I am separated from my husband because of this (he is in India, sick with covid) and people went above and beyond to check in and see how was he doing, was I OK and so on, which I appreciate. Support doesn't have to come in the form of agreeance though.

He is far smarter than most people give him credit for. Thinking otherwise of him is part of the problem.

Talking about pubs and rules.
Last year, a man walked into a pub (not a joke!) and he had booked a table. He knew me and 2 others at my table so came over to say "hello". The manager marched over and told him he can't chat to us because he has his own table and can't socialise with other tables.
I appreciate the worries/responsibilities the manager has to make the venue Covid safe, but I thought it was ridiculous too and especially as she then told us we could chat in the pub garden though.

Balls my daughters y11 mates were buying their prom dresses since last October I thought they were mad I finally succumbed to searching then buying one a couple of weeks ago and just had the length altered. Looks like it’s joining the millions of £s of last year’s unused prom dresses (fully aware a first world problem , my own fault for not leaving it till 30 days before to get a refund etc)
Bless your daughter - I would have been gutted if mine was cancelled. She might be able to muster her friends together for a DIY prom in someone’s garden to still get dressed up nice though!

I am so glad we have made it past 17th May 🥳🥳🥳

I went out for a meal last night finally and then tonight I’m going to my in laws. I feel so much better having things to do now 😊

I am of the opinion the Indian variant stuff will probs just end up like the other variant stuff, not really a big deal in the end.

They’ll make a big song and dance because they want us all to remain vigilant or whatever but realistically, if we can hug our friends and family... I’m not gonna be hugging strangers am I? So there’s not much to be vigilant with now 🤷🏻‍♀️

One of my friends 18 year old daughters got thrown out of a pub on a Friday night for stopping to chat to friends on a different table on the way back from the loo. Luckily her friends saw and left with her but I was disgusted they'd put a young girl at risk rather than just telling her she shouldn't do that

Me too - I’ve got a diary with plans now 😂

Seeing friends and family, theatre, sports and cinema all booked for this month can’t wait!

Also hubs is back to the office next month 3 days a week. They are all kicking off because they all thought it would be 2 days 🙈

I don’t think anyone knows the answers just yet regarding transmission of the virus when you are vaccinated. There is research looking into it.

It is more than likely vaccinations will occur annually/twice a year. Hopefully there will not be any more lockdowns especially during the winter months, but possibly measures such as wearing masks in certain environments (hospital/care homes/clinical settings) or in crowded spaces (public transport). Who knows. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My apologies for triggering people with my language earlier, I should have been more sensitive in my reaction to the completely accurate descriptions of the righteous fight against the evil oppressors and the comparisons with historical occurrences were of course absolutely valid in their equivalence and implication of it being part of a wider master plan, hence my choice of words.

That said, complaints about the other side sticking labels on people probably carry a bit more weight if the mechanism of making said complaint does not involve sticking labels on people.

And yes, I sometimes fail on that front too. Possibly even on this thread ;)

Not funny, not clever. Just my opinion obviously. I didn't know there were "sides".
