I really think each variant developed to thrive in it's own environment and has a target audience so to speak. India has a different climate to the UK, and different living conditions. This time of year deaths would have dropped drastically without a vaccine. Many don't comply and more and more every day stop complying because they see through the fear. I see a glimmer of hope for us when I read that people are not going to comply anymore if we get another lockdown.
The Indian variant in India is not the same as it is here (it's not even as bad there as they keep telling us) We have a totally different way of life here. But they are going to use it to its fullest to get you to do what they want.
The variants may need to mutate again in order to survive in a new location.
Also there was always the idea that the virus affects people with different genetic aspects differently, too . Examples being the Bame community , and different blood groups. ( this has been mentioned within the UK population, not sure if there has ever been proof to the theory).
