This time of year deaths would have dropped drastically without a vaccine. Many don't comply and more and more every day stop complying because they see through the fear. I see a glimmer of hope for us when I read that people are not going to comply anymore if we get another lockdown.

The Indian variant in India is not the same as it is here (it's not even as bad there as they keep telling us) We have a totally different way of life here. But they are going to use it to its fullest to get you to do what they want.
I really think each variant developed to thrive in it's own environment and has a target audience so to speak. India has a different climate to the UK, and different living conditions.

The variants may need to mutate again in order to survive in a new location.

Also there was always the idea that the virus affects people with different genetic aspects differently, too . Examples being the Bame community , and different blood groups. ( this has been mentioned within the UK population, not sure if there has ever been proof to the theory).

Indian media is quite state controlled i.e. look at the letter they sent attempting to control social media. Their PM Modi is obsessed with the bad press they are getting due to the variant so is downplaying the severity as its doing a number on his public image.

Saying about banning booze on the beach as it can cause a spread.... what like it did (didn't!!) last year?! Its all getting ridiculous now. The vulnerable are vaccinated. They're doing the 30 year olds now. Yes cases are going up but unless deaths and hospitals become overrun then shouldn't matter. There will always be other variants. It's a virus. It's what they do. We need to live life again now as this is not living. I am fed up of the fear of having everything close in a heartbeat and not being able to plan a single goddam thing anymore!!

There are over 1 billion people living in India. I find it hard to believe that you've managed to gather an accurate assessment of the real situation there with a handful of accounts.

That goes both ways though.

My husband is in Mumbai. His account is vastly different to the narrative we are being told, I appreciate he is one person, in one small corner of a huge city but he is honest.

Its all anecdotal, as I said and far too individual. I have a number of colleagues working in Hyderabad and what they say about the situation there backs much of the media accounts of it lately. I believe them and I believe your husband too. The best way to get the fullest picture is to read many accounts and try to avoid confirmation bias.

I dont know if this is the thread I should be asking but I am 36 and away to get my vaccine tomorrow and I mean alot of people are trying to tell me not to get it and because I have anxiety it's made it worse so now I'm in 2 minds I would like to ask what everyone thoughts are to be honest

There is another vaccine thread lurking around here that has had similar questions come up over time. I guess (and I won't have the vaccine) with any decision I just make a list of the pros and cons and figure what what matters most to me out of them all and go with that. I'd absolutely do my own research/reading rather than just having people tell me stuff. I hope you can figure things out and do what is best for you.

Only you can decide that. Look into everything yourself from both sides of the debate.

What exactly is changing on 21st that we can't do now.
I do think 21st should be delayed its meant be data not dates.
But my trust in government is all time low
And the opposition i truly believe would been tit.
I'm more cross about uk 2nd wave in autumn winter and lockdown 2 and 3 than the 1st one we really financially suffered this year.
The only people who seem be flush this year are the ones who got another self employed grant.

Husband works non essential retail mostly commission and lost loads money during lockdown 2 and 3 and wasent furloughed .

Can anyone explain Australia to me.
How do they successfully manage localise for lockdown shutting a state down and the UK can't whats their secret?
I do feel Australia got themselves in a mess as slow to vaccinate.
They saying people testing postive after quarantine or even if they been vaccinated they transmitting covid which is different to what we being told here.

The 21st was due to be the scrapping of all restrictions and is really important to hospitality and theatres so that they can run at full capacity and make a profit. I was reading on sky this morning about how many people stand to lose their jobs in hospitality if it doesn’t go ahead and it made me even more angry that the government have let a new variant in. There was also an article revealing how many people have entered the UK since the pandemic began and this year alone and it just seems to me that there was never really anything in place to protect us. We’ve all struggled so much following the rules and people being kept apart from each other, the last few months have been torturous. We’ve done the right thing, it made a difference but oh let’s just let anyone wonder in and now it’s all hanging in the balance.

To be honest I never did think the 21st would go ahead as they said but there’s still conflicting reports, some saying it absolutely shouldn’t and others saying it looks positive and will so I guess it just remains to be seen 🤷🏻‍♀️

One of my best friends emigrated to Oz, she’s married to an Aussie with 2 young children and now has dual citizenship. She’s thinks they have done appallingly, she said she feels like she’s locked in a prison. She hasn’t seen her elderly parents now for 2 years and if she comes back to the uk to see them she will not be allowed to re-enter Oz.

You can only be given special permission to leave if parents are dying and you have to have Gov approval. A couple of friends applied and were still denied and her mum died and she couldn’t go back to the UK 🥺.

She’s a nurse along with most of her friends and many of them are now planning to return back to the UK, she said the poor vaccine rollout was the icing on the cake.

Gives you a different perception on life over there.

I’ll be so jealous if England is restriction free come 21st June. We’re still in level 2 in Wales with next weeks review likely to move us into level 1. Live music events will now be able to go ahead but still with 2m social distancing and no more than 6 in a group I think. I really feel for nightclub owners; doesn’t look like they will be opening up for quite some time.

On a selfish note, it’s my birthday in a couple of weeks and I’m really pissed off that I’ve not been able to find a single bar in Cardiff that’s got any availability left. The restrictions mean you have to sort your night out weeks and weeks in advance, you only get 2 hour slots everywhere so have to book multiple venues and many places are asking for £50 deposits!

I suppose it depends on your situation and why you're there. I have a couple of friends in Oz who feel like the pandemic has barely affected them at all. They are all young without families and their lives don't look any different to how they did pre-pandemic, they still do all the things they did before. None of them have much desire or the need to come back to the UK so the tough border restrictions aren't much of an issue for them just now.
