Definitely enough to keep bills paid, accommodation, food etc etc. Basically the equivalent of when you get a £10 voucher from school. 🙄

Our local area have now gone into the top 20 COVID areas despite being in Tier 2 (Essex). Our local councillor has written to the government asking for our local schools to shut 1 week early and people are KICKING OFF! Most schools have 10-15 staff off isolating so are rotating children being in anyway

I am making an active effort as a tier 2er to go to some small family owned pubs this December and sitting outside with friends whilst enjoying a (possibly very chilly) meal. Of course socially distanced and not too many people but I’ll be dammed if I don’t support local businesses when I can and also have some semblance of festive cheer!

I did a lateral flow test today as I was in close contact with someone at work who tested positive over the weekend. I don't have symptoms so this was offered to me instead. I did the test at 2pm. I hadnt even arrived home yet and had my test results (negative!). It was SO fast and its not like it wasn't busy either bc it was! I have another follow up test in a few days. I still have to self-isolate regardless if both tests are negative but its given me peace of mind I won't spread it to my household.

What is a lateral flow test?

What is a lateral flow test?

Its basically a mass testing for Covid but run through private companies. My data was still passed on to the NHS and my text still came from the NHS number. My test was done exactly the same way its been done before when I booked through the government website. I know some lateral test sites are using different tests. I am not the best at explaining these things but maybe someone on this thread might have a better descriptions of them lol

Can we get a lateral flow test if we don’t have symptoms? I want to get tested before I see my family at Christmas but a normal test would be pointless as I’m not in a position that I can self isolate for days. I’m happy to pay money for it I might add!

You can at Boots, £120, results in 48 hours.

What are the ones where you get results in 30 mins? - 48hrs wouldn’t work as I couldn’t isolate for that time so would be a bit pointless. Ideally I want to get tested the day I drive down which I know may be slightly unrealistic!

what is the difference between this test and a regular test?
It's a private one, so you can get one regardless of symptoms.

I don't think they are available yet. There seems to be some that give you results in 2-4 hours - https://myhealthcareclinic.com/medi...G4VwpDC5ImCIxAvKhmESXN8XZLbtFdNxoCMr4QAvD_BwE

But wouldnt you still have to isolate for 10 days as a contact? Symptoms could show later

Maybe I'm being unfair but I bet vast majority of people claiming this would have no problems paying £3.50 from home bargains for a few months vitamin D. And that the cost to the tax payer is probably at least £35.

Of course it's a good idea for people that can't afford it (although current NHS advice says there's no proven link that vit D helps with covid), but seeing it the "hottest deal of the day" on sites to claim a freebie makes me roll my eyes.

Ah that makes sense - I thought the rapid ones weren't out yet. Good to know you can pay if you need a test with no symptoms!

Ah those are the ones I meant, but there’s no way I could get to one of those testing stations - I’ll have a look on google

There don't see to be too many around, I was looking for a friend as well and I found lots of new articles but not many places offering them.
