BBC reporting from 16 mins ago that rapid testing across Liverpool starting today at 12 with a quote from the mayor?

I’m confused.....
Yeah it seems like the story isn’t straight on it at the minute. I am guessing they will use them alongside the standard lab tests anyway just to be safe.

Seems very strange for it to only come out the night before that they are only 50% effective when Boris was saying last night during the press conference they would be an important tool going forward.

Panicking like mad this morning. Daughter was told she needed to self isolate last night as close contact of someone at school that has tested positive. I'm due at hospital this morning for chemotherapy so I've had no choice but to leave her home alone. She's 12 so not super young but still worry about leaving her. Should only be gone a few hours and I've left her sat doing her teams work on the computer but I'm so worried. Told her I will call/WhatsApp every 30 minutes to which she rolled her eyes and said seriously?
I remember my mum being similar when I was left home alone during the holidays for the first time. I think what you’re feeling is totally normal and I’d be the same with my own children. But I bet when you get home she will be basically where you left her so try not to worry, she’s old enough to be able to fend for herself for a few hours and you’ll be In touch with her regularly. Hope you’re treatment goes well.

I don't think he is.. he's basically been going against everything they've said from lockdown one ..It's the hospital situation that's forced his hand Gupta and co are for herd immunity but that takes years to achieve and is not workable in the short term as the argument is 90% of people have not had it yet along with the fact immunity doesn't last and letting an unknown disease that's constantly changing run amok is not a good idea..It's too early to consider that approach as not enough is known about the disease or the outcomes of it yet..
True, but the empericably evidence supplied by Kings College, London would suggest the regional tiering was working, especially with a drop in real-time data concerning the R-rate. And yet Boris still went with Lockdown 2.

One suspects the data provided by Whitty and co, will be heavily scrutinised between now and 2nd December. Boris has made overtures to suggest there will be no more lockdowns after that, which is a rather reckless thing to say if R rates start climbing again.

Perhaps Boris should bear in mind some basic Latin proverbs when listening to SAGE, "Timeo danaos et donae ferentes" (loosely translated as "I fear the Greeks (or in this context, SAGE), bearing gifts!")

There’s this... but it seems to say that they don’t work but they are going to use them to test in hospitals anyway and continue 😬🤔

My husband is in the process of changing jobs (to a different CCG area) and was told yesterday that he will be having the Lamp tests weekly in his new job, as will all NHS staff in that trust. They have always been a lot more proactive at the new CCG than the one he is leaving, but I don't know how it's going to pan out now. I guess they'll either just press on with it anyway or shelve it to become another government white elephant at our expense.

I was really hopeful for these tests as it would go some way to ease the problem with care home visits 😞

I just prefer to look what's happening atm and try and control that, if hospitals are running short of beds and staff I just think they can't hang around for weeks in the hope it improves ,especially as like many have said the public are weary and it can go up as quick as it came down.

They seem to be pressing on with it, sounds like the NHS have some faith in it though if trusts are using it for weekly testing?

I spose if initially a negative doesn’t mean you can just go live your life/ not isolate if close contact and they use it to test only asymptomatic people... capturing 50% of asymptomatic cases is better than the current 0% ... but that’s a very glass half full way of looking at it I realise 😂

I’m sure she will be fine but your concern is normal! Is there any news from the school on how close a contact your daughter had with the positive case? Hope today goes well x

Just had a call back. Can't give me a name but have told me it's a close friend and someone she is with every day. Daughter thinks she knows who from talking on her WhatsApp group and if she's correct then it's one of her best friends.

Thing is what do you do, if you have no one at home to look after a child who needs to isolate you have to take them with you. I’m not saying it’s right but they don’t have a choice except to keeps all kids off school which isn’t an option.
I will respectfully have to disagree with you. If you are in this situation, then you all isolate. Simple.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear this! I’m glad the school have told you though. Does your daughter know if the girl has symptoms? How does your daughter feel? x

I spoke to mum about the ONS testing in schools. She said it's just some schools at the moment but they hope to roll it out to all schools. Not sure I'm allowed to say about it 🤭

Daughter is waiting for a text back from the girl she thinks it is. She's ok. Think she's more worried about anything happening to me than she is about herself catching it

Of course, bless her. I would definitely try and keep your distance from her as much as you can for at least a few days, maybe ask her to wear a mask if she’s in the same room as you?! I know it’s not a nice thought but it’s for the best?

She's only 12 and her dad is at work so I won't be able to isolate from her.
