It's all just one massive balls up isn't it. rs. Will there be a back log with them due to systom errors in the coming week. It all really is shambolic and I am getting sick and tired of having to read between the lines on these matters. Pfffft
I am as cynical and pissed off as many of us, but if you are interested in the 'glass half full' perspective then we can be appreciative that we live in a country where these mistakes are at least made known. At some point some poor fucker has identified this mistake (can you imagine how many people have had a head in hands moment over it?!!), and there will have been numerous opportunities for people to bury it (I'd have been tempted to 'delete column' on that particular excel spreadsheet 🤪). I can think of a number of countries where the population would never have even found out.

Right well that's my last ounce of optimism gone for the week. As you were 😆

Wow what a wild ride this has been to catch up on.
So to summarise what I've missed. 16000 contacts spreading covid in the UK due to incompetent government once again.

And the covid positive POTUS done a drive by to thank his fans.

Have i got that right??

Or am i still dreaming? Seems like the type of shit that would only happen in dreams....

I added a graph to my reply, we're actually on a steeper curve :(
This graph is by specimen date so the artificial 12k/22k recorded date jumps aren't represented on it.
Definitely not ideal at all.
It’s honestly just shocking. I thought we’d have learnt from the first time but clearly not

Demographic's different this time though so will it be as bad ? ...BUT there was a lot of excess help last time, medical staff coming out of retirement to help out ,and sadly most losing their life so that help won't be there this time around if it's needed ..

This has made me realise (finally) that really there is no point in my checking the numbers every day and feeling positive or negative about it. It’s totally out of my control either way and could be totally incorrect. I don’t need to know the daily numbers.

think from now on I’ll just wait until Boris puts out more restrictions and otherwise keep my nose out.

Luckily if we do move to this 3 tier system where further restrictions are imposed at 100 cases per 100k population of the local authority, I live in an area where we currently have 11 cases per 100k so hopefully have a little while before we hear anything (I am not so bothered if they stop households mixing tbh, just don’t want everything shut.)

Going to be a bit more que sera sera about it, off on holiday today finally (in the UK) so hopefully a nice break will take my mind off it all ☺️

Exactly this!! Peoples mental health is resting on these figures which don’t even mean anything as they are so unreliable!!!
I feel for the people who wait for the cases to be released everyday and then panic if it’s higher than the previous! It’s actually so ridiculous. The government should either be 100% transparent or not bother at all and just raise the alarm as and when.
I am honestly a lot happier and worry free when I don’t pay it any attention. I do what I can within in terms of wearing masks and staying away from people but other than that I’m resuming life as normal until somebody tells me otherwise.
I can’t live in fear of the unknown and I have absolutely no control over what happens!l so why would I spend my days fretting over numbers that have been made up for all I know!

What does everyone think of the tory seats up north with high numbers but not being put into lockdown?

No lockdown
Sheffield 110 cases per 100,000
Barrow-in-Furness 112
Darlington 110
Craven 109
Newark and Sherwood 84

In lockdown
Chorley 73 cases per 100,000
Wyre 71
Lancaster 66
Oadby and Wigston 63
Wolverhampton 56

Despite the shambles of a government, I don’t think anyone would really know what to do.

One persons worry about pubs opening is another persons livelihood at stake wondering where their next wage will come from if they close.

One persons concern about the schools reopening is another persons concern regarding their child’s learning and development if schools are shut again.

One person who feels a stricter lockdown needs to be enforced is another person praying they won’t need to go without seeing loved ones once again.

Regarding the posters comment above, our government don’t seem to know their arse from their elbow, but at least we are being made aware of their fuck ups (rightly so).

We had/have the furlough scheme and yes it’s going to cost us in the future BUT it’s means millions of people knew they had a wage for a period of time. Not many countries had that benefit. We have really amped up our testing, when you compare to other countries of a similar population, we have pretty much doubled the testing. For that reason, we can’t really compare against other countries.

I realise that I sound like im praising how things have been run, I’m really not 🤣 Im just clinging onto the tiny shreds of positivity in this nightmare.

Depends what you class as posh! I'm in South Yorks and would never describe Sheffield as a top Tory constituency. They hold one seat out of 6, and even that is more to the Barnsley side than Sheffield. Yes there are well-to-do areas but the county itself is one of the most deprived areas in the whole of Europe. Can't speak for any other areas on that list though.

I didn't say posh, they are they tory seats compared to labour seats which were put into lockdown around 60 cases per 100 but seats like sunak's are all on higher numbers and aren't being put into lockdown. The only difference seems to be who holds the seat...

Given that the Oct dates will have the least amount cumulatively added to them so far, it seems fair to say we were actually experiencing exponential growth over the past 2 weeks when we thought cases were levelling out.
I was really hopeful that we would be able to get through the winter with just local lockdowns, the rule 6 and the curfew but now we don't know if these measures were ever working at all.
Also how much has the track and trace fiasco added to the increase we will see over the next week or 2. The contacts of 15k people weren't contacted ,so many people out and about not knowing they should be isolating. Disaster really.

I'm sure we will have a press conference this week now, the good news is we can get the beers in!
Now that it is miserable out maybe I will have a mulled wine for my new go to briefing drink of choice.

Thank you. This makes more sense now, albeit unacceptable reporting.

Yes sorry I was referring to the article classing them as wealthy areas. Sheffield is still overwhelmingly Labour though, so I still don't know why it's on the list.

I'm actually surprised at how well India have run their testing (unless they're lying) they seem to be running without a hitch ,have even developed a new 60min rapid test in the shape of a paper strip ,a bit like the cheapie pregnancy tests that they'll hoping to roll out soon.

What are the differences between the hospital admissions in those areas? Don't know if that information is anywhere, but that may be something to do with it.

It's weird, as my anxiety spirals with things out of my control. My CBT taught me to focus on what I CAN control: i.e. turn off the news, disable social media accounts, distract myself etc. It's hard though when it is everywhere.

Personally my mental health is in the shit bin as in my job we are having to constantly deal with the virus in terms of forward planning. So I have to spend 25hrs a week planning what could happen. It is deafening.

I'm not sure but they specifically said 60 cases per 100k was what was used as a benchmark initially, which was when they put Blackburn/ Darwen into lockdown. Those decisions weren't based on hospital admissions.

It's appalling. We should all be treated the same, and we need to know and understand the system they are using for these additional lockdowns. We can't be expected to live like this indefinitely. Here in Kirklees our numbers are also now below 100 but we're still in lockdown.

Ours are 454.2 per 100,000 at the last count R 2+ and they're only starting to move now as the health service is under pressure .They said the ROI will run out of ICU beds by the end of November if they stay on the same level and we're much worse than them

Partly because Labour seats have been asking to go into lockdown in the first place.
