Chappell Roan

It's utterly unhinged to avenge a grudge against a stranger for a perceived slight 8 months ago. How angry and festering do you have to be to do that, and to even remember it in the first place?

And why does this only apply to the celebrity? What about photographers? By your logic, why should paparazzi have to put up with childish, spoiled divas - who occupy a more powerful social and economic position - publicly ranting and raving at them at their place of work? Photographers would be just as entitled to improve their lot and object to mistreatment.

Paparazzi only have to take photos of celebs. There is no requirement to be nice to celebrities either, by your logic. But I suspect you only apply your reasoning to Chappell because of classism. Photographers occupy a lower social rung, so they have to just accept their superiors giving them public dressings down.

Paparazzi are not stalkers. They have a symbiotic relationship with stars. You say the parts of her job she doesn't like are not fundamental to her role, but actually they are. Without fame and all that comes with it, she wouldn't even make a wage with her own music. She'd have to eke a living doing covers in pubs, clubs and weddings, like other non-famous singers (or live off Grandpa's money).
Not classism at all. I have a little experience with paparazzi (not for myself but a close friend) and therefore have a very low opinion of them based on how they treated her.

She wasn’t just targeting someone randomly, it was retaliation to something they had done previously.

Exactly. I thought it was wildly known that paparazzi are ruthless pricks, why is the narrative suddenly that they are poor victims just trying to do a job!?? 🤣🤣

Because some are and have a civil relationship with celebrities? In the context (because that matters) of Chappell Roan's situation, the photographer wasn't acting like some stalker. It's a bit silly to compare what happened to Britney Spears and Paparazzi of the 2000s. He was at a public event, with other fans and photographers. If she doesn't like the idea of that, then she shouldn't turn up to red carpets.

And he wasn't even talking to her when he said "shut the duck up" at the Grammys. I'd support her "trying to make a change" if the situation was actually gross. But she simply decided to pick a childish fight with someone who didn't have bad intentions in the first place.

She performed a new song on SNL last week (video is the audio from the performance).

Not...really sure what I think about it. It's catchy enough but a pop country song six months after Cowboy Carter and Fast Car etc. feels trend chasing rather than innovative. I also don't think she really has the voice for it, girl very much Does Not Have The Range (that run at 3:14, eek). But social media seemed very excited about a "lesbian [] country song" so maybe it'll be a hit.

It just sounds forgettable to me

I reckon she has peaked this year and now she will be in that tough position of having to either chase that same success or be happy with having a dedicated fandom

I could see her pulling a Meghan Trainor, quietly settling down to a career of songwriting with occasional tours through smaller venues.

I want to see someone try something that is country but is sad or melancholy rather than being something that is designed for line dancing. Not all country is pop.

Not having range never stopped anyone from being a pop singer, so she will do fine 🙂

What annoys me, is people give an extra 'gold star' to anything LGBT related. It is patronising to not hold someone to the same standard as everyone else because of sexuality.

That was bleeping awful

The thing is she worked 10 years for this moment so I don’t know if she will want to do it

At least not until she realises she can’t have all the good aspects of celebrity and avoid all the negative aspects that come with it or accept to work around it in some way

No one should expect to go to work and have people be rude to them and then told to just smile and accept it because that’s how it’s always been. Feels like for famous women we’re stuck in the past and if they create boundaries they must be crazy.
You've never worked in healthcare or customer service, I take it? That's literally all day every day at work.

I'm not saying it's "right" or that we "should" take it but ffs she's doing it for her own ego, not for the good of all female celebs.

I like a lot of her music but she needs a better management team and a good therapist.

I’ve actually done both. If we’re talking about people without capacity in a healthcare setting then that completely different. There are usually policies and markers for what is tolerated though in both healthcare and customer service positions. You can simply hang up or choose to not serve someone in customer service if they’re being outright rude/aggressive to you after you’ve given them warnings and you will usually have the backing of your company when doing so.
I’ve had years of experience in customer service and also as a carer and apart from when you’re talking about people with dementia calling you fat, you’re really not expected to just tolerate people being that rude to you. Also it isn’t something you’re expected to take 24/7, if she’s being followed by paps etc outside of her work setting (the red carpet) then I can imagine that frustration builds up. No one ever followed me home from work or broke laws to take photos/listen to my private conversations.

Man, we live in different worlds. I can't refuse to serve a customer or a patient, I'll be fired. I've absolutely been followed home by angry customers. I've been hit, spat on, called names, punched, cursed, and threatened. And I'm not paid nearly as well as this woman is. She's becoming a professional victim and it's exhausting. I've been a fan of her for literally probably five years and I'm pretty much done at this point.

I hope you find a job that looks after your wellbeing soon. This isn’t the norm unfortunately, I’ve had plenty of jobs and never had to put up with that tit, I wouldn’t for any money in the world either.

All of her recent outbursts at paps have been at public events where she is working

Even this IG comments comment thing is just journalists reporting on what is industry news and was rumoured like a month back
I know that, my example was more to highlight that we get to clocks out of our jobs and celebrities are expected to be on shift whenever they’re out of the house which can add to their frustration.
I’d personally not sell my freedom for even Taylor swifts money

Thank you for the moaning laugh, I nearly choked from laughing so hard. I've worked a decade in customer service and not had a single manager who would allow me to "simply hang up or choose to not serve someone" who was being rude or aggressive (which is at least 25% of every shift I've ever done). What fantasy world are you living in?

Again, I hope you manage to find a company that will look after your wellbeing.
Whenever I’ve worked in customer service I have been told you warn the customer that you will not tolerate aggression and if they continue you won’t carry on the conversation. If the calls are recorded then they can listen to it back and and verify that you tried.

Honestly, all you’re doing is making me feel bad for you and think that you don’t have enough self-worth. You shouldn’t have to put up with being abused at work in ANY position.

A link to the NHS’s policies when it comes to abuse of their staff. As healthcare and customer service was a given example.
