Celebrity MasterChef

Given up on this, love the professional and regular version but its now so obvious they get help (or the I can't coo stories are fake), either way its just not authentic to watch

Lesley who doesn't know how to use her bloody oven but seems to understand how to do a tarte tatin? 🤔
Rather like Cliff did one for the ‘under the cloche’ challenge with the plums. Not an easy thing to do for a novice chef without instruction. Must be one of the options taught to them by their helper.

Enjoyed tonight! Always had a soft spot for Jimmy, he is a sweetheart! Kirsty reminds me of my old school report- a bit “ does not take criticism well” 😂
Lesley no oven doing ok! Liked the look of Richards lamb chops ! I think the right leaver choice was made this evening!

I don’t think a tarte tatin is that difficult. It was ready made pastry and a few apples in butter and sugar. I don’t think that American actor got the get yourself a helper memo! That gravy thing he tried to make was awful!!

I don't think "How To Cook Rice" can be one of the lessons taught by the helper, going by the solid sphere of something-that-was-once-rice that Kirsty Gallacher managed to produce.
I don't know how the hell she managed it, she should have been eliminated, her first effort consisted of hardly any cooking.

Did they say why Jimmy was wearing those black latex gloves? Made it all look a bit sinister 😂
No standout cooks so far in this heat.
Might have a skin problem like psoriasis or bad eczema or something else he didn't feel comfortable being shown on camera? Or he's a bit particular about food prep or food getting on his hands. A family member of mine wears gloves when handling meat even in a home kitchen because he hates the texture so much.

And suddenly be able to fillet a fish!
Maybe she was coached but how come Kirsty's rice was like a football she obviously hadn't been helped unless she is beyond the pale? Do they pay out of their own pockets for coaching? So do some fork out for private tuition and others don't? If the BBC provide coaches or mentors then surely they would do it for all of them?

I stopped watching after the first round last week. I’ve read the articles that have been posted (thanks poster) and I’m going to watch again (I enjoy it and the rumoured help isn’t all that bad really)

From what I can gather there are home economists who help with setting up the challenges - testing they can be done and in what timeframe - and setting recipes like the world food one (guess what’s in it and then cook it in x time).

I think they are on hand to ‘guide’ the celebrities in what to cook which is why you’ll see some with crib sheets, and to offer help on basic skills e.g. filleting a fish. I think this is given so they don’t end up looking completely stupid or not have something to serve up at the end of it.

Not everyone will want a lot of help as some may be a lot more competent than others or at least think they are (*cough* Gareth). I guess some celebrities will also have more time than others to commit to the process as they may be working on other projects or so z-list that this is their only job at the time.

Just caught up on last week’s and have to say like others that Mel is fab. Likeable and so refreshing to see an attractive, competent, intelligent woman of a certain age & not trying to reverse time.
With Kirsty and Lisa Snowdon (who for some reason I find irritating) coming up too poor Faye might find her ditsy act doesn’t cut it.

I felt a bit sorry for Gareth to be fair. Another group & he’d have gone through.

It does irk me that generally, across all the Masterchefs, those who do something really simple and make no mistakes get more praise than those who do something really complicated and make a small mistake.

Yes Gareth was definitely a good cook. As you say he was in the wrong group. If he was in the one now he would sail through. That is the trouble with these type of competitions - same with the other iterations of the show - some rounds they are all really good yet some have to leave, other rounds they are all completely average yet two go through. And they are far worse than the ones who had to leave the good group.

(Btw @Lostcat re Jimmy Bullard's gloves - ah good point - I hadn't even thought he might have an allergy or skin condition.).
