You're not alone. I still read a lot of the advent calendar threads on different places as I love feeling the general excitement, but I also make myself read the post- release posts, where the typical reaction is disappointment and slight regret but consoling themselves they got one particular thing, and a pile of average stuff (which was my experience too).

My sister and I give each other a cheap calendar (5-10£) every year. It's a surprise what we'll get and it's nice to open the little door each morning but we don't spend a fortune on stuff we would never buy outright.

I buy Cult Beauty’s calendar every year. I travel a lot for work and so find it really useful to try new products in a small size I can take with me when I’m travelling, and then most years there’s products I genuinely use/wanted to try so it works well for me. What I can’t understand is the panic that some people have about making sure they get it. The companies fuel it (CB opened for early purchase this week - it’s September!) and it’s all part of the “you simply HAVE to have this.”

I've had the Liberty advent calendar for a few years but the inclusion of SR tit really puts me off it. Looks like there's also a few repeat products that I won't use so it's not worth it for the super expensive pretty cardboard house.

They're bombarding me with emails to sign up, increasing in urgency as the days go on. Don't remember it being this frantic before. It's way too early for this (and I'm a huge Christmas fan!).

It never sells out these days (years ago it used to) as there's so much competition but they've really ramped up the pre sale this year.

I don’t understand why anybody would buy an advent calendar. Yes, there are a few nice things I’d use but also a lot of crap that people either try to sell on the Facebook sites or chuck out. Waste of money, just spend it on what you really like. And, for once, I agree with Hirons in that it’s a stupid waste of plastic and packaging.

Although Hirons is happy to profit from featuring her basic moisturiser as the star gift on Christmas Day in the Liberty calendar.

I dont get advent calendars either. I can not "just" enjoy them, I need to look at whats inside, and do a mental calculation..once I take out the 3-4 things I would really like and add their full price up and compare it to the calendar price...is the rest worth it? Would I spend £100 on products that are not suitable for me (brown lipstick, oily skin serum) and a handful of glorified testers? The answer is always NO.
But I get the fun, I love the idea of the little window opening etc. But it would have to be a real surprise, and for £200 odd Im not leaving it to chance.
Last year I had a lot of fun watching randoes open luxury calendars. The best one was Chanel. It cost hundred of pounds and it had LOGO STICKERS hahaha

Re: advent calendars, I watched a YouTuber who gets 4 or 5 of these every year and opens them in the run up to Christmas. After a while there's an amount of repetitiveness with the items: short dated stock, dead stock, excess stock. How many Baies candles and 111Skin serums can one person reasonable get through, need or even want?
