A few weeks? No chance without a Drs note for bereavement affecting your MH and ability to work. Most people wouldn’t even ask for this unless they were beside themselves.

And in my company if you went the doctors note route they’d screw you over in the next impact review. Then either PIP you out or lay you off without notice.

In Brogans case, If you can go away for 2 months, you don’t need weeks off to grieve. Neither of them would last in the real world. He’s worked for daddy not because he is passionate about the business but because he’s a big useless waste of space with no ambition and no work ethic. I’d love to see their reaction if his fatty lump surgery was put back for a month because the surgeons cat died.

What cunts they are. The one thing I always gave Bog credit for was adopting an older dog and now she’s managed to duck even that.

I think they purposely adopted an older dog because it was still early pandemic times and they didn't have anything else to do. They thought Bonnie would have a few years (my sister has adopted 3 dogs used for breeding and even if they're younger than Bonnie, they're fragile). Benj would have been happy with any dog, but Brogan wouldn't have dealt with a more energised younger dog. I don't think she really wanted a dog but said yes because Benj was stuck at home, they could have one way before that, she is too lazy to take care of her hair so a dog? Yeah no. She couldn't even take her on longer walks alone. Remember when she went on a solo beach hut stay with Bonnie but had to call her mom mid-journey because she had a million of bags for 2 bleeping days and couldn't move her fat ass? She is hopeless.

Also isn't it weird that Benj's family never took care of Bonnie? They probably had an argument about how Laurel and Hardy went away all the time and expected people to keep Bonnie for free and canceled their own plans.

But now I think they'll get a younger puppy and will let a dogsitter or a kennel take care of it when they go on 15 holidays a year.

I am in now way defending them, as I would not have arranged to go away for so long when my pet was so old and failing, but the wedding/cruise will have been booked way ahead, perhaps when Bonnie was well. Having committed with final payment at least 12 weeks before, they would have had no choice but to go, or lose about £40k minimum. There was nothing they could do at that point, even if they wanted to. No insurance would cover them and they would not get their money back. As much as I love my cat, if I had committed £40k I would be going ahead with the trip. I recognise that won’t make me popular but this is the reality of their situation. Of course we will never know the truth of how they came to make the decisions they did, but it is an incredibly sad situation and I hope they learn from this and, given their lifestyle, don’t get another dog.

My pet insurance covers holiday cancellation if my cat were to become ill. Considering how often they travelled, I would've expected them to have cover of this sort, if they had insurance at all

They throw money away at the drop of a hat on nothing. To me, a pet is a family member, and I wouldn't put that above them. It would be financially painful, but I can make more money, I can't make more time, especially with loved ones.

I get what you are saying but….they said they wouldn’t go away if there were any concerns about Bonnie and would come straight home if there was any need to. All lies. They are terrible people.

The most disgusting thing to me isn’t even the fact they left her for so long, as others have said she probably preferred life with Julie and saw her as an extension of her family circle! The immediate erasing of her from their social bios though. I don’t know what world you live in where that would even cross your mind, never mind mere hours after finding out.
“Right the dogs dead now, we’d better remove her name from our bios Benj”.

The brother posted a picture of Bonnie a few weeks ago. He took it over in Julie's house so I do think she died very recently. However, they dropped many hints that she was 'failing' and 'slowing down'. 12 isn't the end of the road for Spaniels. Many of them are in great nick at 13/14 so the fact they/their vet could see signs of ageing in Bonnie was a red flag that their time was limited.

They had lots of time to assess the situation and see that they had a fading dog and small families on both sides. All the time to choose a short elopement abroad or a small wedding abroad for the immediate families. That would have left them with about 50K to spend and since neither of them works they could have had 5 holidays a year for the next 3 years, allowing them lots of space to look after Bonnie. So, while I don't blame them for not flying home from the coast of Africa, I do throw major side eye at them for booking such a ridiculous 2 month long non traditional wedding that was actually very traditional. 2 narcissists.

And if I am his parents or Julie then I'm seeing that these two will be utterly useless should I very ill and I am planning my life with the assumption that they'll be off in Disney or on a rust bucket the one day of my life that I need them most. Because they will. And I am also telling them that dogs, cats, goldfish or babies I am done playing minder. Look after it yourselves and if it stops you gorging your way around Disney for 3 weeks - tough tit.
