Remember this iconic series!!!

What happened when it spilled over?! Remind me

He had spent some time ... weeks? thinking that somehow she was going to fall into his arms. That was the night that he was delicately informed to back off and stop being such an obsessed bleep. If I allow myself a potential revision of my original wording, I can't remember if he did anything specific to provoke it, or if she just finally had enough and agonised with her friends over how to approach him.

I tuned out and switched off after they all announced their pronouns and sounded like a bunch of morons 🙄

Is it it worth watching another episode? 🤔

Well the pronoun discussion took all of two minutes and showed how incredibly simple and drama-free it can be to simply respect other people's wishes and make sure everyone feels comfortable, but sure, tune off if that sort of thing is an issue for you 🙄

I'm gonna have a look for that series on Youtube - and that particular moment. 😂😂😂

Hallie couldn’t win no matter what she did. She said she was trans so people are complaining that she’s doing it for attention/a reaction. If she hadn’t said anything, she would have been called duplicitous, people were already saying how “obvious” it was she’s trans. They share beds in big brother too, don’t they? I imagine that would be weighing on her mind too, that someone could kick off if they found out they’d been sharing a bed with a trans person.
If she felt comfortable telling people, which she clearly did, then I think it’s good that she just mentioned it in conversation and people seemed to be really accepting without going over the top. I think she seems nice.
This is a good point. There's definitely a feeling of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I can't remember exactly what she said, but I'm pretty sure she just said it and then said "that's it". In other words she didn't want to go on about it, or act like she was special because of it.

Later when she was discussing it with Jenkin and Kerry I got the impression they were asking questions because they were interested; she wasn't forcing information on them.

Tell that to those of us that stayed up until 5am, when Marcus / Dark Horse's obsession with Irish lassie Nóirín spilled over.

... except for the tabloid front page stories with puns like "Go Nads" and "Portugeezer".

I think that back in 2004 she was treated somewhat affectionately, but still along the lines of a freak show. 20 years later, the critical voices are more pointlessly critical and angry.
Well yeah, the tabloids are crappy about pretty much everybody. I was referring more to the BB audience.

What I love the most (as I am sure many others do too) is just observing, analysing, predicting, and watching the dynamics unfold and waiting for a bit of drama! It’s their behaviour and personalities for me and nothing else.

yes, agree about the annoying bird song etc on live feed but used to love the satisfaction of seeing a drama unfold in real time and then waiting for the next days show 🤣

THIS made you turn it off!?

Well the pronoun discussion took all of two minutes
Let's be honest - it took all of 30 seconds really and was so worthwhile so that everyone could feel heard and comfortable, don't know how anyone coudl have an issue with it.

Transgender people were seen as oddballs, freaks who were easy targets for slagging off but ultimately harmless oddities. The narrative has changed now to they are all potential rapists.

Sadly despite the two trans winners in previous series there was a lot of transphobia going on in the seventh series - remember Grace and how she and her little group treated Sam? Nikki (who I otherwise love) said some really unacceptable things too, like calling Sam a 'man beast'. Poor Sam was definitely a bit socially awkward but didn't deserve that. I'd like to think that comments like that wouldn't fly today, but lately I'm not so sure 😔

Oh. I forgot about Sam!

I don’t give a flying fig about what or who people identify me as, but I can still appreciate that some people DO care and that it’s a big part of who they are. It doesn’t take much to respect someone’s wish about - at the very least - what they’d like to be called. Kindness and respect obviously can and do make a big difference to someone’s mental health, and why make someone’s life harder just because you can. Life is hard enough already.

:D

I can't remember Sam but I remember Grace and I really didn't like her, always tit stirriing.

Nikki referring to Richard as a fat ox because he ate all the cornflakes and told her to have porridge will never not be funny.

Yeah especially if you're sharing a house 24/7.

I think Big Brother contestants have pretty much always been fairly open minded on the whole (obviously there are exceptions!) I mean, Anna in the first series was a lesbian ex-nun and everyone seemed fine with it. That was in 2000. :D

Interesting fact, I went to look up an old clip of BB1 as I couldn't remember Anna's name and found a video where she said the prize money was £70,000. So I went to the inflation calculator on the Bank of England website and discovered £70,000 in 2000 is worth £126,493 today. So the prize money has technically gone down!

Fun fact - Anna Nolan became a TV presenter and producer (mainly in Ireland) and very much helped pave the way for LGBT rights in Ireland. She is also the only housemate that Davina Mc Call ever became friends with and they are still in touch to this day.

I used to love that daytime show (The Today Show??) on RTÉ as a teenager - mainly for the make-up and fashion bits 😂

People bashing others for saying anything even remotely negative about Hallies big announcement but enabling and not calling out people who made ableist comments about Kerry on launch night like "there'll be no musical chairs with her about" and "Oh I bet she's got 'fibromyalgia', hasn't she?"

Amazing.
