Is a Robert amElms looking for modelling gigs? See rather pretentious latest photo on his insta account. There’s also an earlier throwback of one of him from the Face magazine.

He's on top flexing form this morning. Playing 'umble he talked about a day out in Rye with his wife (her name is Christina in case you didn't know) but said he was disappointed he couldn't get a simple seafood meal near the beach. A listener messaged in suggesting a good hotel with a restaurant in the area but , instead of simply replying that wasn't the type of place he was looking for, he very briskly replied that he did indeed know that hotel as that's where they stayed, and they ate in that restaurant in the evening. So typical of him that he couldn't resist turning the tale of a simple day at the coast into a snippy, name-checking brag (and/or promo?).

I decided to listen to R4 this morning and still am. Did he forget to say his beautiful wife? What did you think of Christina’s bed in her account? There was a picture of him standing in some dunes so that might have been taken near Rye.

Photo was Camber Sands apparently.

He didn't include that frequent descriptor of his wife but he did credit her with being the organised one who arranged the trip, he said he'd stay in watching TV or hanging out in a Clerkenwell pub if left to his own devices. Maybe Christina chose the destination on Minge's recommendation, remember her Rye weekend after Matilda died?

Yes, I just looked at that photo again and he looks utterly cheesed off. It’s bizarre to think that he claims that he’s never owned a camera and says he didn’t need to as his wife is a photographer. I presume that he’s got a camera on his mobile now that he’s finally got one after his bike crash. What did he do for photos before he met his wife?

The explorer who was just interviewed by Bobby from the Barb is on his way to becoming this guy.

Of course EC2 Bob dropped in that he used to be a travel writer for the Times but thank goodness he refrained from trying to trump the tales of derring-do. He knew he couldn't compete so explained that he wrote about cities.

Where did you get my photo from?
😁

Shocking that Robert Elms is continuing to plug the sale of tickets to the live gigs run by his great mate Danny "from the Champions of the world". The events he refers to are themed as per RE's BBC Radio London show and presumably Bobby is not appearing gratis.

On his Friday show he plugged a vintage yard sale, saying that his wife was selling there but he should be allowed to promote it as it was for charity. He implied a large amount of the event takings went to a charity but did not specify how much, presumably the sellers there (including his wife and other stallholders listed on the venue's website who appeared to be businesses) intended to profit.

As I have mentioned before I am outside London, but still find this thread interested talking about folk advertising on the BBC etc. On our local BBC there was a lady that used to text in to say she had just got this cake or other out of the oven, she never gave any views on the topic of the day either just wanted free advertising as it was always X from X tea room she was announced as. Anyway fast forward a couple of yrs and I thought I have never heard of her lately. I looked up the tea room and sure enough it had closed. She just used and abused the station for free advertising, but the presenters let her.

Robert Elms just can't help himself. Talking this morning to the curator of the V&A Fashioning Masculinities exhibition she could barely utter the words "a suit from Anderson and Shepp... " before Bobby from the Barb cuts her right off to inform her "I've got one". He also makes sure to mention he used to go out to clubs in the 80s with Boy George and Spandau Ballet. 😂

further to above he must've been pissed off to not have been on the guest list for the opening party last night.

Vanessa Feltz earlier on BBC Radio London was talking about people giving up their smart phones for more basic models. She has managed to make it mostly about social media, using the opportunity to blatantly give her IG handle, telling listeners they can see her life, clothes etc there. In fact her Insta features many @tags for brands, promoting things she has been #gifted.

On his weekend shows on BBC RL Robert Elms was doing promo AGAIN for the pub events run by his good mate, and where he himself appears. Other friends - sorry, unconnected listeners - called in to say they would see him there. Tickets to these events can cost £30 pounds, but you get a pie.

The only reason Jo Good is not mentioned on this topic of BBC-presenter-promoting-my-monetised-social media-or-PAs-on-air is because she's still off her radio show, last night it was said they hope she might be back in a "couple of days". She has been off for around 10 days; two days ago she tweeted saying she has a virus. She will soon enough be back to using the BBC to spruik her YouTube ads vlogs where they can see promos for beauty products with affiliate links her mum and her puppy.

Not sure if anybody listens to the BBC five live overnight? Well lately a few times Dotan A has been replaced by the BBC world service output. I am not sure why. I don't think he is having an easy time lately as he is taking a few long weekends as it is. Also a woman had a right go at him the other day about talking about something different to Russia/ Ukraine and doing a 20 min introduction. I do agree with the introduction bit to be honest also hate the fact that he says the phone number loads and loads of times..

Have my answer it's to do with covid staffing issues....

BBC Radio London update...

@Mustard Robert Elms did a good interview yesterday with Asma Khan that I thought you would like. She is looking to move from Covent Garden.

I heard Bobby from the Barb make at least one mention on yesterday's show of the pub music event where he appears- so still advertising private gigs on the BBC. Said he had to go home and pack because he's taking a trip, so he didn't do his show this morning.

Jo Good has been off BBC Radio London sick for a few weeks. On her YouTube vlog today she said she'd had a "major virus", all but blaming her predicament on the hours she does on her late shift.

She continuously complains about her job to anyone who'll listen, on air and on her socials. She seems to find it gruelling to do 14 hours per week. She is sent a car to take her home at 1am, a distance of 0.6 mile. On her YT vlog today she gives a poor-me-aren't-I-a-trooper type speech, saying she does the job because "needs must" having to work at 67yo with a woe-is-me expression. Yes times are tough and many are choosing between heating and eating. She doesn't mention that the dress she purchased, as featured on the vlog, cost £1,650.

Loose canon Jo Good has been busy on her YouTube comments giving "hearts" to comments criticising her paymaster, the BBC, some suggesting she might consider legal action against them. This must surely go against her employer's social media activity guidelines. If she's got an issue with the contract she presumably willingly signed she should either: go legal, suck it up or move on. She has been complaining publicly about this since September 2021.
