Robert Elms is doing lots of self promotion on his radio shows. Talking about the live ticketed events he does, not associated with the BBC but inspired by. He also mentions the platform where he's seeking crowdfunding for his book. And he mentions his personal Insta on the BBC, where listeners who visit his pages will find ads for the events and links to the funding.

And his wife is ‘employed’ by the Jo Good show to tout her Qigong recordings. She has several Insta accounts, and posts her commercial work on there including pictures she takes in the grounds of the Barbican where they are living and is a photographer for hire.

TBH, I don’t have any desire to read a book about gigs he’s gone to.

Bobby Elms had Maxwell Hutchinson in as a guest and mentioned his gigs at approximately 10’25 at the Betsy Trotwood pub again. Max was the lusted Londoner last week. I wonder if he has to or wants to pay the people who support him like the RocknRoll Routemaster, Russell Clarke.

Contributors to the BBC radio shows wouldn't be paid. Robert's wife would do it for traffic to her socials.

But surely Robert and Russell invoice for their appearances at the live Betsy Trotwood events. Apparently tickets cost £30. I think it is that Danny from the Champions of the world who is the promoter, Bobby from the Barb mentions him very often on the radio show. Maybe I'm wrong, they might show up to the pub in return for one of the famous pies and a pint. It's really too much that he promotes this commercial event on the BBC

I agree with not wanting to read the book, it will all be about how he saw them first, a good gift for old bloke ticket stub bores. He's also continuously asking BBC listeners for their recollections of gigs, using them for research.

I did mean Russell Clarke to be paid for the Betsey Trotwood appearances, but think he must be paid for his appearances on the radio show as he’s doing a lot of research unless he’s recycling stuff that he’s already been paid for. Re Max, I presume he gets paid for his appearances on the radio show, especially now he comes in, unless they all love him so much they do it for free!🤨

I listened to two more Outlook episodes yesterday. One was Attacked and Accused of Lying - My long search for the truth which was about the rape case of Linda Palomba (you can Google her name - this goes back to 1993) and the other was Inventing a Surgery to Cure Myself with Doug Lindsay who had the same illness as his mother and aunt.

I listened back to Saturday's Robert Elms show on BBC RL, specifically because I wanted to hear Prof Maxwell. I think he came into the studio only because he was on his way to church in nearby Margaret Street. I loved what he had to say about shadows and architecture, also the talk about insulation, condensation, rainfall and solar gain was fascinating. Bobby was quick to say sun coming in from a south facing window is not good for one's art works; I guess his dear old mum might have said it faded your three piece suite. Max said he recently did a TV show in the US, I would be interested to know more about that. Robert's plug of the Betsey Trotwood live event was most unsubtle, then he also snuck in mention of his crowdfunding publisher Unbound which was apropos of nothing!

On a similar topic, Ike Ijeh who they are using regularly as an architectural contributor is just terrible, he laughs and interupts at the wrong points in the convo and, sorry, just doesn't seem terribly knowledgeable. Robert seems to know more that he does - which of course he's not shy about flexing. In fact that reminds me that on Saturday's show RE was very quick to interupt the chap who was talking about the book he'd written about Richmond, the author said that a certain men's clothing shop was in Covent Garden and RE sharply interupted to say, very archly, it is in fact in Marylebone and he knows because the owner is a very good friend of his. There was really no need for him to be so rude about it but I shouldn't have been surprised, he has never worn his connections, knowledge or accomplishments lightly.

ETA: Further to the above (at approx 1 hour 36 seconds on BBC Sounds) get ready to cringe. Don Black talking about working with Van Morrison and Robert Elms interupts to say " ah...I know Van quite well". Why would he even say that? I mean Don Black will have met or known everybody but Bob still can't resist flexing his connections. I look forward to listening to Don's new show on BBC RL, six eps from Sunday 6th March at 5pm.

I realise this is mostly a BBC Radio London thread and I am outside the area so can't contribute much! I do know who Jo Good is vaguely though and have now found out much more about her! The only part of Radio London I listen to is overnight and early morning. Jason Rosam certainly has his regular callers I can nearly tell you one who will be on although has been absent this week! Not sure what to make of the weekend overnights. That Hailey Hassle last weekend was encouraging people who were in mental distress to ring her then the "expert" went and she was then left with calls from very distressed callers...

Hi @Wood79 I hope you haven't been put off posting here about other local or national BBC Radio stations. I admit there is a lot of BBC RL chat though! Often I will share something here that has been discussed on the Jo Good threads if it is relevant to the BBC aspect of her output.

I catch Jason now and then, I generally think he does a good job at what is an unusual time. I never really listen to weekend overnights @Mustard might have caught some of it. It sounds quite frightening for Hailey if she found herself left with distressed callers who she didn't feel able to deal with after the expert left, sounds like it could have been better managed by the producer.

No i don't mind the BBC London talk I know who Vanessa is obviously and had heard of Jo. Yes Jason is very cheerful for the time of day! Yes Hailey seems to handle things ok, but it seems to happen alot of the time. There is alot of encouragement for depressed people (sometimes suicidal) to ring in most weekends and then as I say the "expert" goes and all she can do is try her best with them and give helpline numbers. It is very irresponsible to be honest.

Wow, if that's the way they do things every weekend it does sounds very irresponsible. If they are actively encouraging calls from people in crisis they should at least ensure there is sufficient professional support on offer.

I'm glad to know you don't mind our BBC RL talk. I actually like to read about things I don't listen to, nor do I mind if things go slightly off-topic occasionally. Sometimes I stumble on to threads about people I don't follow or don't even know and it can be tempting to go down the rabbit hole when you read something outrageous or interesting.

Yes I mean don't get me wrong they have an expert for a start. Jet from Gladiators has been on sometimes as she has done alot about healing body and mind since those days. Some experts are able to stay longer than others though and especially last weekend they seemed to go quick and leave Hailey on her own..

Psst. Tickets for Bobby from the Barbican’s latest appearance at the Betsy Trotwood pub go on sale today at 2 pm. £30. go to his Insta account for info. If you want to see a picture of the bed he presumably shares with his wife, even though she’s labelled it her bed, go to her account - Christina Wilson Elms. She’d already posted that picture on her stories. She also posted ’sultry’ pictures of her youngest daughter on her account. I noticed that she only posted birthday pictures of her son as a young child as he probably told her he didn’t want anything recent on the account. Both her daughters have private accounts.

Is a Robert amElms looking for modelling gigs? See rather pretentious latest photo on his insta account. There’s also an earlier throwback of one of him from the Face magazine.
