Have tried to like the 10 to The Top quiz with Gary Davies, but it is utter shite, dull with a poor scoring system.
At least we got On The Border by Al Stewart for afters 😁
Thank god Ken starts on GHR in a couple of weeks
Is Vernon going to take on the 10 to the Top quiz or bring in his own?

I am sick to death of hearing the trailer for the 'Gold' TV programme on BBC radio. I don't know if it's on other stations as well as R5, but it's quite ludicrous overkill. I've not a fan of TV stuff being promoted in this way on BBC radio as it is, but this is ridiculous.

I feel the number of adverts on bbc radio 2 are just as bad as on a commercial station. The trails go on for ages . I'd rather listen to Simon mayo.on ghr with the ads than the repetitive ones on the BBC. I feel that this is a new thing, trying to drum up listeners for bbc sounds etc.

Yes it is irritating.
They'll say 'brand new drama' and only at the very end reveal it is on TV. They're doing it with Gold on R4 as well.

Getting up early with more days going into the office I've been enjoying listening to Jason Rosam on BBC Radio London, he outlines the main news items but also some general topics, which makes a nice easy start to the day, he really hits the right tone. This morning he said he's been doing that slot for 3 years and he seems to have built a nice vibe with his listeners. From 5am to 6am he's nationwide so I like hearing callers from all over. Then 6 til 7am he's just on BBC Radio London. Jason could do without Patrice who (tries) to read the newspaper headlines, often failing to deciper the simplest words or terms, leaving Jason to rescue her, which does kindly and patiently. Despite being on Radio London she constantly disses the capital, she's from Havering and keeps saying she wants to be considered from Essex, not London.

I also think the BBC RL breakfast show Monday to Thursday with Salma El Wardany is coming in to its own, it covers main and local news, community stuff and always includes some upbeat items. It's even better with the fantastic Riz Lateef on Fridays. The repetious music is a challenge though, on all BBC RL shows.

It's hard not to compare the content of these shows to that of Jo Good's BBC RL shows, in which she forgets about the remit as a local London show, instead using it to promote herself, her socials, her side hustles, her half-dozen or so stan callers who shower her with compliments, her mates and her overseas listeners, to confer international glamour upon herself. Rest of the show is her "cough cough oh my asthma" and "oh my gosh, oh my gosh". No wonder she's in the departure lounge with the upcoming changes to local radio.

I haven't listed to Jason for ages. He seemed to be a rising star on RL, doing news items on Vanessa's show when she was there etc, but he seems to have a lower profile there now. I'm not keen on the national then local switchover on that show. I don't know what it is, it just feels clunky within the same show.

Yes, it is od

Yes, Jason was very good when roving out and about, he always seemed to ask the right questions, he is very smart, incisive when appropriate and sensitive when necessary. He is recently married so being settled now he might ramp up his career. I wonder if he'd go commercial, I've not heard him refer to the changes or his situation.

The switch over is a bit strange but I don't mind it, it seems to fit with my routine. Stranger I think for those outside London who have JR for an hour, then presumably someone else for an hour, then someone else on the breakfast show. I'm sure these short slots will disappear with the new broom, I think I read that all shows are to be 4 hours.

Robert Elms is really grinding my gears. Today's show on BBC Radio London we've already had his " I live in the City" flex, an early one for the bingo card.

Then, talking to Nigel Barden about Australian food, Bobby from the Barbican tells Nigel that he's never been to Australia because it seems too far to go for somewhere that's "culturally like here". Really? Is he entirely unaware of the culture of the Aboriginal Australians? (or "aborgines", the term used by his insensitive colleague Jo Good). As for the food scene in Australia, it's arguably more varied than London's, the climate allowing the many immigrant communities to grow a wide variety of produce. Not to mention the wonders of the natural world. Quite tone deaf considering the many Australians living in London.

I don't mind Jason but I find the program a bit on the cult like side. There are always the same folk on I won't name them on here it's not fair, but those who listen regularly know who..I guess there are only a limited number of regulars who will pick up the phone and physically ring up especially at that time of day so it's unavoidable..I am not in London so only have an hr to listen and would rather have Jason than Dotan on a phone in any day of the week. I won't go on about him again but yes he really grinds my gears. I am grateful I suppose that they still do phone ins because I don't know about other areas of the country but our area of England doesn't really do them anymore. Most of the audience interaction nowadays is via stupid little games that take part at certain times throughout the day. I would have been devastated about the BBC cuts to local radio a few yrs ago but now I think how much of the input is local stuff? On our BBC local channel we do have alot of silly games, and TV reviews that could be done from 10 miles away or 200 miles away..

Very interesting about Jason's show being cult like, I've not listened often enough to notice but I can see how it might end up like that, typical of overnight/early phone ins. I quite llike the stupid "What bird is this" that Jason does, it's so lame it's good, and I love hearing the regional accents. I think Jason is bright and talented so let's hope he can escape from the weirdo hour. I rarely hear Dotan but I must say I haven't minded what I've heard but I might feel diifferent if i listened regularly. Steve Allen's stans were creepily cult-like before his mystery disappearance from LBC, no phone-ins but emails and messages from the usual suspects in his Facebook fan group who'd also turn up at his glittery jacket one-man shows and Magic Circle club shows.

Agreed. I'm surprised he's stayed in that slot for so long, unless he has other business interests and that time of day suits him.

ETA: I think Radio London in general has a very limited pool of callers now, and not very many of those either. Robert used to take far more calls than he does now. I wonder if they worry what people will say on air that might land them in bother (swearing etc), but it does also seem a way of the BBC really controlling the content.

The old overnight shows used to be brilliant, particularly with people like Simon Lederman, who knew how to handle caller after caller (four hours of it with no music). A genuine pool of different people, even if I didn't like them all.

Yes on the overnight phone in you get a few swearing people at times but not too many. I guess they avoid this if they put through the same folk who have proved themselves to not swear and not say anything controversial. I do think the move away from call ins is to control the content as you say. Dotan more than anything is the constant repeating over and over of the phone number that for some reason annoys the heck out of me..To be fair on a night when he is completely on his own and hasn't got too many callers he has to say something and he can't just stick a song on because they only have music on on a certain night.. Tell us a story or something though anything but the phone number repetition!!!

So excited for this!
