The 2nd contestant has a little advantage over the 1st in the new quiz, they can play their joker at the perfect time, beating the other quizzer.
Assuming they answer correctly of course 😁
Some tough questions today & Gary gives us a bit of Kid Creole & his Coconuts now

I read that the quiz is a pre-record - perhaps that's to avoid the contestant playing their joker card as they don't hear what the other contestant got on live radio?

It is pre-recorded but the 1st contestant this morning said oh his questions were hard
So I guess they hear each others questions and answers.
It wouldn’t be much fun as a contestant if you just answer a set of questions ‘cold’ as it were, without any interaction with the other player(s). So I agree with you, surely they must hear one another’s rounds, otherwise it takes away that element of fun and competitiveness.

Yeah, there's not much interaction with this new quiz as there is with PopMaster being 'live', no shout-outs or finding out about the contestants like Ken does.
It's not a bad quiz just a bit sterile.
I miss Ken already :(

Like me when Terry Wogan left.
Just so hard to get used to someone new.

On another topic why on earth does anyone give Mark Watson a programme? His new one in the Radio 4 6.30pm comedy death slot is dire. He has that beyond irritating singing comedy duo Flo and Jo. (They were the ones on that awful Nationwide ad a couple of years ago).

I'm not a Radio 2 listener but thought many here might appreciate this article

(actually I've just realised I keep thinking this thread is only for Radio 2, because of the thread number being #2  ).

Excellent article.

In light of the Gary Lineker thing, I wonder if the BBC are getting tougher with presenters (like Jo Good) who use the BBC to promote their monetised personal social media accounts. I ask because Jo Good did her radio show yesterday from Crufts and I was very surprised to note that she read out out the official BBC Radio London Instagram handle, where they were posting pictures of the event.

This struck me as very unusual as Jo Good usually gives listeners her own personal social media account details, ostensibly so they can see photos of what they're talking about (even a live stream from the studio on one occasion), while she actually benefits by luring listeners to her adverts for the various brands she has commercial promo agreements with on Instagram and YouTube.

The Beeb is probably being more cautious now that their social media policy is being looked at closely. Putting the politics of his comments aside, at least Gary Lineker never broadcast his personal social media handle, or his opinions, on BBC airtime, unlike Jo Good who does it any chance she gets.

Still, Jo Good managed to sneak in a bit of personal promo - at the Crufts show yesterday she interviewed reps from a company called Paleo Ridge, the dog food company she has an ad for on her IG, and is an ambassador for.

Ha there is a whole tattle thread on her. I don't even live in the London area or listen to London radio but still like to read what she has been up to! I sort of remember her from Crossroads although I was very very young when she was on it.

I think the revised social media guidelines will almost certainly be tougher and seek to iron out any doubt BBC employees outside of broadcast news have about SM use. I can see the phrases 'For the avoidance of doubt' and 'Including, but not limited to' being scattered throughout the update. The BBC has handled the Lineker issue very poorly and will want to make sure its not placed in the same position again.

I imagine they may take the opportunity to tighten up on presenters giving out personal handles too. Presenters' SM accounts are easily found with a quick google search; there's no need for them to highlight them at all. Those who wish to find them, will do so.

I heard on BBC Radio London this morning that staff there will be striking this afternoon, presumably about the proposed cuts to local radio. I wonder how it will affect the output.

Spencer Matthews speaking about his brother on R4 Saturday Live just now, came across very well. I'd only heard of him via Made in Chelsea, which I haven't watched, or general news re his marriage.
