Americas Sweethearts - netflix

I finished this at the weekend and I looked at Reece, then her fiance. He is seriously punching! Though I didn't see any chemistry between them. I know this team had already been showcased on MTT (which I had never watched), but I don't think this Netflix programme was a good idea for DCC. It has exposed their practices and the culture to a much wider audience. I took myself to Twitter after i finished and the show was getting dragged. It is insane that these women are on minimum wage. Having to need hip surgery at such a young age is wild. Those jump splits don't mess around!

I didn't like Victoria at the beginning of the documentary, but halfway in I could see how damaged she is and how much she is wanting and needing validation and not getting it from this environment. It is very toxic. And her relationship with her mother is just not helping her at all. She is so fragile. That last episode, she really wanted validation and approval from those women and they were never going to give it to her. It's just mental torture, I'm glad she's left and I hope she discovers happiness and self-love.

Victoria just moved to NYC. I think being on her own will help tremendously with her self confidence. She's a sweet girl and I'm glad she stuck up for herself and didn't return for a 5th year. I'm actually enjoying her vlogs.

Also find it strange how there are no stunts in their routines? Like no pyramids, back flips, throwing each other in the air etc. I watched some of 'Cheer' on Netflix which is another documentary by the same director about college cheerleaders and there's so much more of it.

Sideline cheer and allstar cheer are different. At some colleges the cheer teams do the sideline so can throw in stunts (like at Navarro in Cheer) but at others it's the dance team. Also only a few US colleges create cheer routines that are allstar style, a lot more do gameday style (with a chant and props like flags/megaphones/signs etc). NFL cheerleading is definitely much more dance focused and they look for technically trained dancers rather than gymnasts/cheerleaders.

I watched this the other day and can 100% see why young girls in America want to be a DCC when they grow up. I want to be a DCC when I grow up and I'm 33!

I've been involved in cheerleading here in the UK since 2002. I first got interested after going to an American football game and seeing the cheerleaders there. Since then cheer here has followed the allstar route so it's not really the same as what the DCC girls do, but I know loads of girls who in their late teens/early 20s have required various surgery on hips or knees because of the strain on their bodies from tumbling and jumping. And these are girls who do it for a hobby. It's really not that surprising to me that some of the DCC girls have similar issues.

I’m on episode 5. These older ladies that run the team are horrendous. I was genuinely miffed when they got rid of the girl for being too short (soz I’m rubbish with names). Like wtf? She didn’t look out of place at all? She was stunning and a fantastic dancer.

The first uniform try on made me really uncomfortable. Some of the comments about their bodies were a bit much. My jaw dropped they told one girl she had a pancake arse.

As others have said, deffo cult vibes.

Also never wanna hear thunderstruck by AC/DC again.

Wonder why they only focussed on 3 or 4 or the rookies. Did the others not want to feature? Or the producers decided sickly sweet Reece was worthy of watching. She gives me Bree van der Kamp vibes, in 3 years she’ll be a stepford wife smiling as she secretly wants to harm you 🤣
I know when they filmed Cheer they filmed interviews with a lot more of the team but then didn’t use a lot of them and just focused on a few. They probably film loads of people and then cut down to the best stories and what will make the best tv.

I kept wondering with Reece… Is cohabitation before marriage not frowned upon? 🤔

I’m not religious it’s so genuine question about the modern central belt Christian way of life. If anyone can school me would be much appreciated!
I noticed when her partner arrived when he moved in I don’t think she even kissed him but I wondered if they just felt awkward in front of the cameras.

For some reason instagram decided to recommend me her old graduation photos and there's one where half her butt cheek's hanging out of her uniform - not very christian if you ask me lol
However when I was in Texas I met lots of girls who would go to church (most) sunday's, have a psalm in their bio and quote Gods will constantly but at the same time were some of the sluttiest people I know 🤷🏼‍♀️

In fairness she typical bible belt America

I love that she's from Jacksonville because when I hear Jacksonville this is all I can think of:

I thought the same. Maybe they get married young because they don’t agree with sex before marriage. Tbh they had zero chemistry but as long as they’re happy.

Yeah I agree. They seemed like very sweet people. Maybe the chemistry will come after they…

This made it onto Celebrity Gogglebox tonight. Minds were blown by the routines in regards to these women needing hip surgery and other issues as a consequence.
