Americas Sweethearts - netflix

Just finished watching. I must be one of the view who actually loved Victoria from her very first try out. Her story made me cry a little bit. Really hope she moves to NYC and becomes a Rockette.
Also loved to see more of Kelcey and Caroline. Kat still annoyed me lol.

The Rookies I didn't like as much. Reece, I'm sorry, but she is such a sterotypical Albama girl. Can't stand her sweetness at all and she seemed SO naive. I kept forgetting Anna Kate tbh. I personally would have liked to see both Ari and Charly on the team. Hopefully they'll have a height requirement for this new season because cutting someone in the middle of training camp because of her height just felt wrong. That's something they could have noticed the very first time they were dancing on the field. Also loved the Doctor (Anisha?). Oh and the part with the bus driver made me cry. I hope DC takes real good care of him .

I would’ve picked Ari and Charley over Charlotte’s sister aka Mary Kate. What was going on with her audition dance? She looked like that episode of Always Sunny where Dee dances:

They were really cold with releasing Ari? I’m on episode 4, a few more to go. I like Victoria and could relate to her a lot. Not a fan of Reece, very phoney IMO, when she said something sounded too country the demeanour switched. I wasn’t keen on Kelcey.

Just seen her home life 😌

I know she's sickly sweet but I find myself liking Reece. I definitely feel sorry for victoria. It feels like she's living in her mother's shadow/trying to please her mum. Saddened me to hear her say she doesn't feel like she's on track with her life - she's 24! She has her whole life ahead of her. I think she feels she has to live up to her mum's timeline. It's so sad.

She looks a lot older but still seems to be living in her childhood room! Definitely trying to please her "Mom" which is sad

Just saw the bit when they take a couple of guys on a tour. I found it quite disgusting how the tour guide said "they're all on social media so you can catch them there" basically saying they are free to stalk/harass them etc as he makes some jokey comment like "they can't date the football players but there's no rule against tour guides" 🤢

I enjoyed it mostly because that world (both American football and cheerleading) is so alien to me that it was interesting to find out more. Considering how much footballers likely get paid for Charlotte to be so dismissive of the DCCs pay was not great to see. I know their roles are not comparable but for them to be paying millions to the guys and practically minimum wage to the girls that they have to have 2nd jobs doesn’t seem right

I liked Kelsey and Reece but sadly I can see some negative comments coming Will’s way as he is not the typical look of a cheerleaders partner no doubt

While Victoria annoyed me at the start you could see her unraveling as the series went on and the blame is firmly on her helicopter mum

Didn’t know anything about MTT so will go and look for it. Someone up thread mentioned 17 series, has it really been a show for that many years or do the show a few a year?

Anyone know where I can stream MTT? I vaguely remember it used to be on ITVbe a few years ago during the day but I didn't follow it religiously.

I though this Netflix show was really good but also highlighted some very obvious issues regarding pay, treatment of the girls, etc.

Also find it strange how there are no stunts in their routines? Like no pyramids, back flips, throwing each other in the air etc. I watched some of 'Cheer' on Netflix which is another documentary by the same director about college cheerleaders and there's so much more of it.

I think Kelcey is absolutely stunning. And Anisha. Reece too but she was just so sickly sweet it was annoying.

Oh the DCC is mainly just dancers, there are some cheerleaders who made the switch but it's a completely different ballgame if they wanted to do lifts and tricks.
I'd say space is also a deciding factor, they need to be able to perform on the sideline, in sometimes tight restricted spaces, so would be rough.
MTT is on MTV in the mornings, I think it's cycled through 3 showings of the previous series this year alone, the early ones were just 6/8 episodes and were 30 mins long, MTV have been playing 2/3 every morning.

I finished this at the weekend and I looked at Reece, then her fiance. He is seriously punching! Though I didn't see any chemistry between them. I know this team had already been showcased on MTT (which I had never watched), but I don't think this Netflix programme was a good idea for DCC. It has exposed their practices and the culture to a much wider audience. I took myself to Twitter after i finished and the show was getting dragged. It is insane that these women are on minimum wage. Having to need hip surgery at such a young age is wild. Those jump splits don't mess around!

I didn't like Victoria at the beginning of the documentary, but halfway in I could see how damaged she is and how much she is wanting and needing validation and not getting it from this environment. It is very toxic. And her relationship with her mother is just not helping her at all. She is so fragile. That last episode, she really wanted validation and approval from those women and they were never going to give it to her. It's just mental torture, I'm glad she's left and I hope she discovers happiness and self-love.
