Americas Sweethearts - netflix

Has anyone watched this? I have watched all the DCC making the team seasons so it was interesting to see this take on things!

I really enjoyed the more in depth look at what a season looks like for the girls. I felt incredibly sad for Victoria thru the series, I think she feels so much pressure from her mum to have the same experience she did and she feels some level of guilt for the fact it’s not been the same for her. I could have cried for her when it showed her birthday and no one was there

For anyone that’s not seen the making the team series, they usually show it on MTV on the weekend mornings and maybe thru the week as well. I’m sure you can probably stream it tho! The making the team shows are just auditions and training camp, it doesn’t show during the football season tho

I've watched the first two episodes and really enjoying it! There's so much pressure on the girls, must be really tough. I am surprised victoria got back in as from what they showed us her dancing didn't seem as up to par with the others but it could have been the way it was edited. I'll have to try to find the other show as I haven't seen that yet.

I’ve watched it all. It’s wild that they all need other jobs to support themselves when the owners are rolling in it! Without being too mean Reece’s fiancé was not what I was expecting! I also felt sorry for Victoria she seemed to help the others out a lot but Keli and co just don’t seem to like her.
I feel like that Alabama is another world when it comes to purity culture. Marrying the first guy who talks to you is insane to me! She is absolutely gorgeous but seems incredibly sheltered and naive.

I have watched the first episode so far and will watch the whole series in due course. As I am not from the US, the cheerleader thing is quite alien to me, but it is interesting to watch.

I’ve been waiting for someone to make a thread about this show.

I binged most of MTT during lockdown and starting following a few of the girls on insta so have been keeping up with the goings on etc.

My biggest takeaway from this new Netflix show is that I actually like Victoria and somewhat relate to her. I couldnt stand her during MTT but actually this new show has highlighted how deeply insecure she is. Her entire life has been based around DCC like her life literally begins and ends there. Her mother is also the root of her problems imo, they do not have a healthy relationship.

Have they stopped making, making the team? Think I've only seen up to season 17 or something on mtv. It was a couple of seasons of covid so fairly recent.
I'm not sure I want to watch Americas sweethearts though I was convinced it was a new season of making the team made different by moving to Netflix 🤣

Loved the series. I am in awe of their dedication and sheer strength.

Reece kind of annoyed me, too saccharine for my taste. She is as amazing dancer though.

Definitely felt sorry for Victoria, but I don't think she had the personality traits that would allow her to attain her goals. Not going back for a 5th year was a smart decision.

Both Kelli and Judy seemed to have a good balance between being supportive and critical.

I was completely entranced every time Charlotte Jones was on screen - what a stunning, sophisticated woman. Wow.

Yea I am the same,

yea I am the same, I really like Victoria and I think this show gave a much better understanding of her. I just felt so incredibly sad for her, she just didn’t click well with DCC and whether that was her personality or her mums influence I don’t know. I really hope she moves away to NYC and gets some independence from her mum to pursue her own dreams. I feel like the pressure from her mum must have been immense to act like she loved all things DCC but her experience was just not like that

Just finished watching. I must be one of the view who actually loved Victoria from her very first try out. Her story made me cry a little bit. Really hope she moves to NYC and becomes a Rockette.
Also loved to see more of Kelcey and Caroline. Kat still annoyed me lol.

The Rookies I didn't like as much. Reece, I'm sorry, but she is such a sterotypical Albama girl. Can't stand her sweetness at all and she seemed SO naive. I kept forgetting Anna Kate tbh. I personally would have liked to see both Ari and Charly on the team. Hopefully they'll have a height requirement for this new season because cutting someone in the middle of training camp because of her height just felt wrong. That's something they could have noticed the very first time they were dancing on the field. Also loved the Doctor (Anisha?). Oh and the part with the bus driver made me cry. I hope DC takes real good care of him .

I've watched all of MTT and tbh I think the netflix doc is not what TPTB Judy,Kellie and Charlotte think it is.
I think this highlights a lot of stuff they tried to gloss over in MTT,
Charlottes tone deaf dismissal of the girls being paid, Kellies reaction to the SA, you could see how pissed she was netflix was there to film it and the outcome, I don't think DCC came out of it as well as they did in MTT.
The treatment of Victoria, I'm not a Victoria fan at all, but it was obvious she was treated differently, I also would suggest she checks if she is NT, maybe Adhd, as someone with adhd I could see some of the struggles I have, and the ED is also indicative.
Reece cannot be real.
Poor Caroline, I'm assuming DCC don't cover any of the injuries or surgeries for the girls...

I don’t feel like the show did Victoria any favours. She came across a spoilt brat imo.

On episode 5, really enjoying it. Had forgotten I used to watch making the team years ago. Must go and see if I can find it and rewatch and watch the series I didn't

I felt quite sorry for Victoria- the expectations felt different for her and I did feel like they tried to leverage her perfectionism to manipulate her into a 5th year. I do wonder if the team struggle to connect with her because of her mother and are wary of tattling going on.

I do wonder why they thought a Netflix doc was a good idea. MTT was controversial in its own way but in this they give cult vibes and the toxicity seems a bit more sinister. Like what they did to Ari. The poor girl was thanking them.
