Actually Honest - skincare and makeup reviews #4

Any recommendations for a tinted moisturiser, bb cream, no make up make up type thing?

I’ve had Charlotte tilbury flawless filter or the elf glow before but wondering if there’s anything else to try for a nice glowy skin look? I liked the look of Dr Jart bb cream but I’m allergic to one of the ingredients.

I really like the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. It’s great for everyday wear and does not irritate my sensitive/ acne-prone skin.

I’ve started using tret. I’ve gone for 0.025% and have been using it twice a week for 2 weeks and so far, so good! I’ve been making sure to keep my skin moisturised. I was thinking about building it up to 3 times a week, see how that goes. I’m guessing the goal is NOT to build up to using it every night? Regardless of strength?

Where are you getting it prescribed from? I’ve been having a look online and no luck.

my GP prescribed me it because I have quite bad cystic acne. I was using it every night but only in the area my skin is flared… it’s around $40 with a prescription.
I think my cream was about £7-8 ($10ish US) per tube. But I suppose you could factor in the one week holiday my husband and I went on when I talk about the costs 🤣 but buying the tret was just ‘because I was there’ rather than medical tourism!

I had to google what it was, I think it has retinol palmytate rather than tretinoin? It would, therefore, not be as ‘intense’ as tret, which you might prefer? That being said, you can buy stuff with retinol palmytate in the UK (might be cheaper in France, though).

However, I don’t know very much about these things so hopefully someone really knowledgeable will be along shortly with a proper answer!

ETA: found a reasonably helpful blog here: https://frenchskinlab.com/blogs/resources/a313-vs-tretinoin#:~:text=With a high 0.12% retinol, dryness often linked to retinol.

I‘ve got some A313 from the local pharmacy so will give it a try and report back.

the dr jart tint is a very particular shade. On me (nars alabaster) it looks grey lilacy. Their redness tint thing in the green jar is a nicer colour on me

Funnily enough I’ve had a small jar of the Dr Jart redness stuff for ages and I just dug it out this morning, as I’ve been looking a bit blotchy around my nose and cheeks lately and nothing else is working. I’d forgotten what a great product it is. Covered everything up and didn’t need to use loads, so it didn’t look cakey or too heavy. The colour was excellent too.

might give this a go. I’ve been having horrible itchy, red reactions again around my eyes and face which I put down to something I’ve used but I’m now thinking it could be my hayfever.

I’d say it’s worth a try. I think you can still get the small size to try, they’re good value and would last quite a while. I hope it helps.

In need of foundation recommendations...

Day to day I use the CT Flawless Filter with the CT Beautiful Skin Foundation. I have a wedding coming up so want something full coverage that will last all day. I usually use Mac Studio Fix but haven't for a while.

I use the Chanel Tan De Soleil Bronzer and set with Laura Mercier Translucent Powder so something that sits nicely with those would be amazing. Day to day I prefer a light coverage but I definitely need something for events 💛

Anyone any recommendations for rosacea. I don't like wearing makeup full time but would like something to take the redness away, nose and cheeks are affected areas.

I love the Bare Minerals Bare Pro liquid foundation..

Look up Retirides..thats the brand name...I just checked and the place I got it from before (Spanish pharmacy) no longer sells it online as think you need prescription now.

I'm in a tret group on FBook and a ppl order from a site called the Chemist 247...based in India and run by a guy called Vikram...ppl have got stuff to Uk no problem but not Ireland. The stuff is genuine and he is lovely and can provide advice. The Azelic Acid they sell is good too apparently. A UK site called tretinoinworld .net is also recommended and an Irish girl said she can get it from there to Ireland no problem

For skincare or make up?
Azaleic acid and metronidazole are good for redness, azaleic in particular works well for me. For skincare, the dr jart cream works brilliantly, it’s a green colour but sort of melts into the skin and knocks out the redness!

Thanks so much. I was using Azaleic but stopped (for no reason only probably laziness so I'll go back to that) and try the Dr jart. I've green creams out of my ear but none of them really took my fancy

See the posts above your original one re the dr jart green tiger balm stuff - it’s very good, but if you don’t want another green cream I completely understand.

As an alternative, I’ve heard good things about the Erborian cc cream.
