Your tips on how to keep your home glamorous #3

I’ve tried to search but not coming up with much…

The time has come! I’ve been given the green light for new bedding and towels 🤪🤪🤣

Only white, only cotton, no budget if they’re good 🙏🏼

We have

Soak & Sleep Egyptian cotton towels which are lovely and wash beautifully. Bought my first set in mid 2022 and they are perfect. I quite literally went around M&S, John Lewis, White Company and Dunelm to feel up their towels before settling on these 😆They always do hefty discount codes around Black Friday.

Dorma 1000tc sheets and duvets from Dunelm. Absolutely lovely. Have had a few sets of 1000tc and these have worn the best. Got my first set in 2020 and still going very strongly.

Morning campers! Can anyone recommend a steam generator iron at all? I feel like I need an upgrade from my standard steam iron. It’s always the £500 Philips one that wins all the ‘best’ spots in the articles but £500 for an iron seems wild! I iron cotton, linen and viscose items in the main and I am that weird woman who irons her bedsheets, which are superking sized so it’s a bloody marathon and a half! Thank you ☺

I use this Morphy Richard’s one, it’s the second one I’ve had in 10 years. I would never be without it to be honest, I hate ironing but this cuts down the time massively. You can use it as a handheld steamer too for jackets/blazers etc

I’ve had my white company towels for a year now so they have been washed a lot and they are still as soft as the day I bought them!

Dusk bedding has been the best I have came across in a long time. We are moving very soon and going to go for dusk bedding in all rooms.
For towels I always remember my mum telling me the original factory shop does the best but no idea if the brand but I will be taking a trip there to buy some of their bath sheets. Hand towels I buy Asda simply because they get destroyed with children and husband that is forever tinkering in his car 😭

Does anyone have any tips for washing towels to keep them fluffy ?

Supposedly it’s using too much soap powder that does it, not totally convinced. Rinsing with white vinegar rather than using any fabric softener is also supposed to be good. To be honest though, because we don’t have a tumble dryer in my house I don’t think it would matter what we do, they sort of end up crispy. I’d get a tumble dryer if I had somewhere sensible to put it but I don’t!

I tried washing my towels with just white vinegar then put them in the drier and they were the exact same 🤷🏻‍♀️

No fabric conditioner (it impairs the absorbency) a splash of white vinegar instead, give them a really, really thorough shake before you put them on the line. I sometimes put mine in the dryer for ten minutes after drying outside to fluff them up if they’ve dried stiff.

This! The plastic spiky balls that go in the dryer might help as well; it's all about "airing" them.

The main thing I miss not having a dryer is fluffy towels. Even with the vinegar/vigorous shake routine mine just aren't as fluffy as they used to be :(

This thread convinced me to buy some dryer balls this morning.
I have a new dryer coming tomorrow so bought some wool dryer balls and dryer sheets (the manufacturer actually recommends them to keep the machine in shape)

I’m sure these have been recommended a zillion times on here but I just got a Bissell Spot Cleaner and it’s fab! We have house rabbits and they’re pretty clean animals but I washed the carpet area they have a tendency to sit in and the water came out brown!!! Only problem is that they’ve now got the hump and refuse to sit there.
I saw one of these in Lidl for £60 to £70 recently. Wonder if it's as good.🤔
I saw one being tested out on TV - think that one was £99 can't remember the make. I got the impression the presenter was going to rush out and buy one straight after - it was that good! 😁 Don't hold me to this but I think it was red or red and black.

I have one of these and it's great, just kinda heavy especially for small clean ups. For those I like the M&S Stain Removing Wipes, they work great. I do need to crack out my Bissell soon. Thanks to my OH and toddler, my carpet is looking grim.

I just started laughing whilst watching a You Tuber who is parcelling up a birthday present for a friend, and has added the stain removing wipes, as they seem to be very wanted and hard to get hold of. 😁

Which spot cleaners would people recommend?

There is such a weight/size and performance trade off. Handheld vacuums are always tit!

I would love a decent handheld vac. I have a big Shark that's too much hassle to use multiple times a day but several pets that necessitate regular clean ups!
