I don't think it's fair to call home schooling "half arsed input" in a general sense, people like Bex just give home schoolers a bad name- and I'm saying this an early years teacher whose worked in various schools. I have a friend whose home schooled her boys for the past 8 years and they are some of the brightest, most well adjusted children I've met in my years in education. It really does rely on the parent's taking it seriously and putting all their effort into it.

That's interesting. I know nothing about home schooling at all. Does the intellect of the home educator play a part? Apart from keenness? Ie do they have to have a good knowledge of most subjects or are there tools and such like to help in the areas you don't know much about?
I'd never do it. I consider myself quite bright but the responsibility would be too much.
I am interested why Bex thought she would do this? Has she ever really explained why?
I hope it wasn't just the early starts for months on end 😬

I don't think they necessarily have to be overly intelligent but they should have some knowledge of what they're teaching, and definitely interested and invested in education- before my friend had children she studied child development and worked in early education for years! There are also plenty of tools and resources out there to help, plus lots of homeschooling groups where the parents can pitch in with their own individual expertise. Plus I don't think we should forget that education should be more than formal, rigid curriculum based education. It's about socialisation and personal growth, and recognising 'the whole child' and have a focus on wellbeing.

Bex is awful for this role really.

She did a thread on it years ago. It boiled down to her being bullied at school and eventually dropping out because of her many neurodiversities, and not wanting to put her neurodiverse child through the same thing.

Also, school starts way too early...

Thank you. Interesting.
I don't get any of this from Bex.
As usual she buys stuff to solve problems - equipment for the educating rather than doing any.
Home education seems to be a full time job if done properly but so often she talks about 'feel sad - might stay in bed all day today' or 'feel cute - went for tattoo and new nails'. Not just occasionally but often.

Home schooling is definitely limiting to a lot of kids. I have met many young people who have home schooled and then come back into education, and they all had huge gaps in their knowledge- one person just can’t expertly teach secondary curriculum and online doesn’t really fill the gaps. In my sample the kids have all been odd and have struggled with peer relationships, which would limit them in peer education/ employment.

The ‘technical’ term is a nan boy- a kid who spends almost all their time with adults, speaks like a granny and is used to everyone hanging off their every word.

So no time off from online then? She's such a performative wanker, literally and figuratively.

The screenshotting of last messages and posting to people who don't know the poor lad seems very strange to me. You'd maybe chat amongst folk who knew him and exchange anecdotes, but on Twitter....😬
It’s that weird thing where people centre themselves in any tragedy. The sort that had a friend or family in some godforsaken disaster but tweet about how terrible it was for themselves…how worried they were. Sat at home watching it on TV.

Whomever that poor lad is, a few random messages and the odd hookup is hardly worth the drama she brings to the table “I vant to be alone” style.

Bex may be less impulsive and spell better than some - but she is just as gross.

It’s like those people that break their necks to be the first to share on FB - RIP (insert name). So they can get all the reacts from people finding out there. I had two on my now long deleted Facebook profile and it used to tickle me no end seeing which one of them won the race. And my daughter has one on her page (a work acquaintance) that is the same and we snort at it when they do it.

Proof of her real life friendships.

However, since Rebecca hasn’t been happy since she was being railed by plant boy, I’m calling it an old message.

I vaguely recall her going on a date with an ‘old school friend’ a while back so I’ll safely assume he’s had a go.
