WhatMummyMakes #8 Raisins and mayo are foods of the devil, but pastry and cheese are simply next level!

Successfully weans one child - thinks she's an expert in child nutrition.

Eats out 50-75% of the time - thinks she's an expert home cook chef.

Drags one child around the country to national trust sites and shopping centres - thinks she's an expert in travelling with kids? Has she ever been abroad with myNini? Or to anywhere unfamiliar? And honestly, who are these parents of lockdown babies who are scared to take them out? I call BS, more fictitious messages like her book Q&As.

Literally millions of mums go out with their kids every day… it’s really not a thing! Plus she only has one. Who is saying that watching them go to the National Trust and eat focaccia gives them confidence?!

Perhaps she can show us how she gets on doing something kid orientated like a picnic in the park, soft play, messy crafts…cooking for some of Nini’s friends... ‘Cause I reckon she’d be all over the place and wouldn’t manage at all.

Tell me you write questions to yourself without telling me you write questions to yourself 🙄

Also hi Bex, you clearly read here 👋🏼 nobody needs a travel series from you except for the LOLs at how ridiculous you are 😅

That new book cover is awful, how is an obese cookbook ‘author’ appealing to people, I JUST DONT GET IT 🤯

If those questions are genuine then i feel sorry for the kids who have those people as parents that they have to turn to someone like becky!

Ffs just google your bleeping questions! Does becky look like she lives the life of a health guru!?

Im convinced becky is trying to steer towards becoming a mummy influencer as she is running out cheese and brocoli ideas.

Rebecca nobody wants a travel series. It’s literally be a tour of the Carlisle Costa’s.

can’t be done with the smug “I’m not a mean mum” comment. Touched a nerve eh. Maybe because taking your child away from an opportunity to engage withkids her own age should be for more important reasons than you having no friends, to go play on parks by herself at a national trust site or sit in the back seat of a car for hours on end.

also that book cover is NOT flattering to her at all. Still can’t understand why she moved away from the whatmummymakes brand that she’s established
Especially as it mentions "baby" on the cover. Rebecca doesn't have a baby.. or even a toddler. I don't think it would've sounded strange to say child.

I think she’s banking on the parents who are just beginning to wean feeling uncertain and thinking they need a special new book to help them.

Basically she’s capitalising on new parents still probably on maternity leave who don’t need to be spending money on pointless books.

yes!! We haven’t been in lockdown for quite a while I doubt many people are still scared to take their kids out. Maybe initially but most people I know who had babies during lockdown couldn’t wait to take them out.

To be fair there is market for that…lots of mums from my NCT have the first book, just yesterday there was a picture of a seven month old chowing on a massive filo pastry veg samosa on the Whattsap group. Shop bought pastry, of course.

Becky nicked that off a web page called ‘Mummy Cooks’.

I’ll put my hands up and say that I often struggle to take my two out to new and exciting places ( 2 and 4 years old) but that’s for a number of reasons like:

- We are are trying to reduce car usage.
- I couldn’t afford to go back to work because of increased childcare costs so we can’t afford things like NT membership and entrance fees to soft play every other day.
- I have two independent and energetic kids - not one ultra compliant 4 year old.

Somehow I don’t think Bex’s wisdom and insight will be much help to me. There’s a huge difference between getting out and about when you have one child and lots of disposable income, and when you have more than one and actually have to live within a budget.
I think her top tips will be galling because Rebecca ‘I can’t believe I found yet another pile of cash hidden in an old notebook along with half a dozen scratch cards’ Wilson will not address the fact that most of her followers are struggling in a way she cannot comprehend.

it just goes to show, that you can be an unqualified unprofessional nobody with single child that eats everything u shove down its throat, you too can be a best selling author!
I’m beginning to see a trend in unqualified and unprofessional nobodies becoming best selling authors (cough Mrs Hinch)

But parents really shouldn’t be made to feel pressured to take their kids out to ‘new and exciting places’! When I was Nini’s age we did the stuff she does on holiday or possibly a bank holiday ‘treat’. We were generally doing stuff like going to the local woods/beach/park and taking a picnic, or doing a bike ride. Or just playing in the garden! And I’ll mostly do the same with my own boy. Children that expect a full itinerary of treats and activities and trips and lunch in cafes is storing up trouble.

Exactly! That’s what Rebecca just doesn’t get! Prices are going up on everything. A lot of people can’t afford a NT subscription on top of all their other bills, not to mention the cost of petrol to get there and then eating out there too. Even if you take your own picnic that’s extra money on the food shop. She’s so out of touch and wants to present like she’s some perfect parent and I feel bad for anyone looking at her insta and feeling like they are not good enough or that they are letting their children down because they can’t afford to do all the things Rebecca does.

She never goes anywhere new for Nina either. Each to their own but why can't she take her to somewhere a bit more child focused. When she was doing some photo shoot for her last pastry bible book she was right by Peppa pig world and didn't bother taking Nina. Surely the NT sites have been done to death now.

I’ve said it before but What. Makes. Her. An. Expert? Ok so she’s got a kid. That don’t impress me much (Shania eat your heart out). But sorry, she’s seriously overweight, her child is going that way too. The recipes are calorie laden. She doesn’t cook at home, is always dragging MyNini round antique shops and NT properties and when she does cook the recipes are basic crap.
Instagram. Where unqualified hacks can pretend to be experts

Is it just me and Bex that loves at NT day out? My three year old loves running around in the gardens, and the playgrounds are usually quite fun. Having said that we don’t tend to travel more than an hour to get there, brings a picnic and heaven help us if we try to stop off for shopping and dinner on the way home. Oh and I go at the weekend like a normal person.

I did always think her target market was more the middle class yummy mummy, make everything from scratch, my baby can only eat organic group so I don’t think she ever tried to be relatable to those with less disposable income. Having said that everyone is feeling the pinch now, and I can cook better than she does. Pastry does not a meal make.

I used to quite like her account but she does Seem to have become a parody of what you guys have been saying about her for ages now.

Also a big NT fan here but exactly in the way you describe! Def no more than an hour in the car and we take our own picnic.

I live in ultimate Yummy Mummy land and pretty much everyone I come across has made a couple of her recipes when first started weaning but then similarly aghast at the nutritional content of the rest! Plus certainly wouldn’t eat most of it as family food because of how heavy it is on calories etc. But then again every book sale counts, so too late by the time you actually read it!
