It is often a fact that families from non white British culture tend to have larger amounts of people living at home than you often see here. So it isn't a surprise that it stands as a cultural shock for some people, because it's simply not what they are used to. That isn't racism.
Correct. Where I once lived it was a 2 bed and there were loads of them living there. Was like a TARDIS. (They were of Eastern European heritage). Like you said, difference of culture, just we aren't used to seeing that.

Everyone I know who I’ve spoken to about it recently seems to have more sympathy for them now because it seems to have been somewhat confirmed that it wasn’t the parents. (Although until someone is actually charged with something I still think anything is likely personally).

I don’t get that. Whether they were involved in her disappearance or not they still LEFT her. She was practically still a baby. They left her alone with her actual baby siblings. It baffles me honestly. I feel a lot of sympathy for Madeleine and her siblings but I struggle to find much for her parents.
Let's be honest here, they only got off so lightly because they were Doctors. If the McCanns came from a council estate.....🙄

I remember on another thread we were discussing sex workers and someone said that she lived beside a house of Eastern European sex workers and she didn't enjoy it (for obvious reasons of coming and goings and so on). She got jumped on and accused of racism and "was it the fact that they were Eastern European that you didn't like it?". My unpopular opinion is that it's sometimes not possible to have a nuanced conversation or make observations without someone waiting to make accusations of some kind

Well clearly this is an unpopular opinion - I bloody love musicals!

So do I which was a bit of a nightmare for mum. I cannot tell you how many times I would have The Sound of Music playing on the old VHS when I was off school. (Maybe that's why my Mum decided to go back to work 🤔 )

The only one mum would tolerate was Calamity Jane and I think that was more down it it starring Howard Keel ( one for really old ones amongst us 😁 )

I honestly think this happens with so many topics as well. One of my favourite bands, my least favourite member vocally is black and if you say she is your least favourite (again, vocally) it's because you are being racist.

No, I just like the other members voices more. It is literally that simple. You literally can't dislike any element about a person now if they are a minority group without that having to be the reason. Correlation doesn't equal causation. Sure sometimes it does, maybe even often, but it's not just a given.

Excuse me, I am 29 and Calamity Jane is one of the all time greats, not all us young'uns are uncultured swine :ROFLMAO:

I guess so many people can be racist but are reaallly good at getting close to the line but not going across it and good at hiding their racism.

so if you’re a minority group, then it could feel like you’re under attack from all sides and it’s easy to be mistrustful.

same as when so many misogynists are good at concealing it, but you just know they dislike/hate/look down upon you for being female.

you know what the are in your gut but gut instinct isn’t really enough to call them out on it and be believed

People can do what they want as long as their actions don't directly harm someone else. This extends to choosing whether or not to observe Remembrance Day or wear a poppy, outwardly perpetuate a gender which does not correspond with the genitals you were born with, use whatever pronouns you wish.

I don't see the issue with using terms such as "people with cervixes" as someone could be born with a cervix and consider themselves he / him. No one has the authority to dictate how someone else chooses to present.

I don't think it's the erosion of womanhood to use these terms either. I'm a woman with a cervix and would refer to myself as such but I recognise to refer to people collectively different terms are sometimes needed.

It's a load of hot air when people get mad about it as it doesn't affect then in any way whatsoever.

Immigration is good for the country. I've lived in some of the most ethnically diverse bits of the UK and have never been negatively impacted by it. It's used as a red herring by the elite as it's easy to point to groups of people and say "you're not well off because of them". The reason why you're not doing well at life or services aren't properly funded isn't because some migrant on a boat has arrived.
